Default Air Lift 1000 Install on '11 Sport with 2/4 drop...

As promised...here is the low down on the Air Lift 1000 kit install....

I posted my experience pulling my trailer for the first time in this thread....http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=88974

I got the bag kit for $85 shipped from Amazon. Hope saying that didn't break any rules or anything. I'm sure I'll find out if it did.

Anyway...the kit came in double boxed and undamaged. It is a very straight forward kit with a very straight forward install.

Kit consists of the instructions, sticker, 2 bags, 2 plastic spacers, length of 1/4" hose, fittings, 2 Shrader valves and zip ties.

Took the Ram over to my buddy's shop to borrow his lift for the install but would have been simple with a jack and jack stands...I'm just lazy.

Instructions say to fold up the bag like a hot dog bun and insert it into the spring and then add the spacer and attach the line to the barb on the top of the bag after it is installed. I don't see how that is going to work with the very limited space between the top of the spring mount and the bed so I opted to install the spacer and the line with the bag half way in.

Took a little doing to get it into the spring but here is the bag left bag installed. The bag with spacer is exactly the same height as the Bell Tech lowered spring fully extended.

Same procedure for the right side but it helps to remove the tire/wheel on the right because you have to work around the panard bar bracket on that side if you try and install the bag from the rear like we did on the left side.

I mounted the shrader valve into a very handy existing hole in the hitch. Used the tee fitting and clamps included in the kit to connect the lines to it and covered all of the lines with wire loom because it looks good and provides a little extra protection for the lines.

I know I'm old school but I really wanted truck to have a little rake instead of sitting virtually level like it did after we lowered it. I got my wish. Here it is with the minimum 5 lbs of air in the system. The back is 1/2" higher now than it was without the bags.

I love the stance now!!! Ride seems a bit more firm but nothing to drastic. We'll see how it does with the trailer but I am confident that this will solve the issue.

Total install time: 35 minutes. Just about as easy as it possibly could be. The only difficult part at all was wrestling the bags into the springs.

Thanks,

Terry

Sweet, what was the part #? I am still debating this. I'm not sure if I want to give up my level stance! lol

The wire loom was a great idea, looks clean!

Ok not to get too off topic, but I've got a question that's probably really dumb, but here goes. Is there any way to use something like this...but in the front of the truck?

The shock is in the mniddle of the spring on the front so obviously bags like these wouldn't work but some sort of air bag could be adapted I'm sure. No kits are available as far as I know. I'm sure some one will chime in if there is such.

I'll report back when I pull the trailer. Judging from how little air it takes to raise the back of the truck, I'd say that they are going to do very well.
