Default Help with performance mods??

I have a 2003 Ram 1500 with the 4.7L. I bought it back in 2008 used and at first it was getting around 20mpg highway but since then has decreased to 15-17. It had a Flowmaster already installed when I bought it and the only thing I've done since thn is put a front-end leveling kit on. I would like to boost my MPG back up and get a little more power for pulling a trailer. I've been told an air intake is a good place to start but I dont know which kind would be best. I'd like to try a programmer as well. Does anyone have the Superchips Flashpaq for this year and engine?? I'm gonna do a tune up shortly as well. Also, any thoughts on using Seafoam?????

Using the Seafoam is a great idea. Normally, what causes your MPG to start decreasing is excessive carbon and deposits in the engine's top end.

SuperChips or DiabloSport would be a good choice.

Air intakes are pretty much the same. Here's a thread that folks contributed to about CAI comparisons you might find helpful:

The bottom line is that you get what you pay for. A good quality, brand name CAI is the way to go. Stay away from the cheapy eBay units that don't specify a filter mfgr. Some of them will come apart and you'll suck filter media into your engine!

^ He covered it. Tuner will be best bang for buck, and a decent intake should help as well. I doubt though that you'll get back up to 20mpg, maybe 2 mpg better or around there.

Thanks for the advice! Any tips on using the Seafoam? I've read their instructions several times but am still leary as the bottle says it can severely damage your engine if you pour too quickly. I was going to simply add it to the gas tank but that's not as effective apparently

You can watch seafoam videos on youtube or maybe even their website I think. I usually put some in the gas tank, and run some throuth the brake booster vacuum line, or some other vacuum lines while keeping the engine running. Also, you can put it in your oil, but I usually do this immediately before an oil change, so that after you put it in you can change the oil a hundred or few hundred miles later to get the seafoam and gunk it broke down out of your engine.
