So I recently purchased a 2004 Ram 1500, bone stock. I really have been enjoying the truck, and I've been adding my own little things to it; K&N CAI, leveling kit, bed cover, toolbox, etc. The only thing that I really wanted was an ipod adapter. After reading through and searching many other postings, I was disappointed on the amount of information available to do an install. So I did my own research, and here's what I came up with. It was my understanding that with all of the different variations on the stock head unit, it was difficult and expensive to find adapters. This one is a universal unit that would plug inline with the antenna, and would have the ability to be turned off or on when/ if ever.

from there it was easy. first image is one of the stock head unit. I didn't really have a need or desire to go beyond the factory head unit until I decide to install a sub, and aftermarket door speakers.
I had looked at several other options to retain the factory controls on the steering wheel, some allowed me to use the controls to manipulate the ipod; aside from cost, I was really not too worried about the control on the steering wheel, I'd be using my iPhone. My only criteria were: it has to charge my phone while it is in use, and I want to be able to plug in an auxiliary cable from an alternative music device, and wasn't going to cost an arm and a leg , etc. This kit fit all those criteria so I bit the bullet. Installation was a breeze.
I left my camera at work, so I'll post photos of the install tomorrow. but I wanted to at least get the word out there on a simple product to install for Ipod use.
