got my bilstein 5100's installed today!!! I have a 2011 sport and I set them at 2.1. About 1/2 difference in wheel well gaps from front to back. perfect in my opinion. Hopefully it doesn't settle any more than it has already. Thanks for the write up shelby! Helped quite a bit. Couple things I would add is for the cap on the top of the shock I found it way easier to put the shock in a vise and just use a flat screwdriver and tap it off with a hammer. THat's just me though. Also I didn't need to disconnect the steering at all in order to get the shocks in. One less thing to take apart.

For everyone out there who's debating on this project. Just do it! Even if you don't want to lift the front at all, the ride is like night and day. Soooo much better with the bilsteins!

Default question about install on 5100

I just recently purchased bilstein 5100 struts and was wanting to install them myself. my question is was it difficult to get the spring on the new strut because it has to be compressed more than stock. I have done struts before but unsure because of the preload that is put on the spring. any advice will be helpful trying to save every penny I can and thanks in advance and your truck looks sick. I have a set of dick cepek mud country 33x12.50x17 I am going to install after leveled out

To compress the springs I used this tool from Harbor Freight:

http://www.harborfreight.com/single-...sor-43753.html

Listed at $69 there, but if you sign up for their coupon/sales email list, you won't have to wait very long before you can get it for $49 - that's how much I paid for mine.

It's easy-easy to do the 5100's with a spring compressor tool like this. I've used mine on several sets. There are other, better, more expensive versions out there too - if you don't mind paying a little more, you can definitely find a higher quality tool. This one does work though.

Here is a picture of my truck a couple hours after I bought it. You can see the box for the HF spring compressor in the foreground, about to be used. Only took a couple hours to do all corners.
