Default 1999 ram won't start

I parked my 1999 ram for a couple weeks. When I went to start it, it turned over, but would not start? It seems to fire briefly, but will not start. I initially thought it was the coil, because I have had to replace it twice already...No luck. Made sure there is enough fuel, added Heet, still did the sae thing. I checked fuel pressure, seems ok(48). What should my next step be?? Any advice is welcome. Thanks

How about the starter? How about cleaning off the connections to the starter?

Did it rain while it was parked? perhaps the dist cap let a little water in. I'd check the plug in on the coil as well. I've lost several ignition coils too, and am suspect of them straight out of the box, especially of the 90s era Gm and Chrysler designs. I must be simple, for I fail to understand what the starter has to do with the engine being willing to run or not, I have always thought of a starter, working in concert with a few other things, was only responsible for reaching out and grabbing the ring gear and giving it a spin... I keep seeing this starter- no ignition stuff written, would someone clue me in on this? Thanks...

I agree with the reboot of the ecu. I don't know why, but back in the mid 90s, A respected mechanic told me that when you do this, to have the key turned to ignition, disconnect the neg cable, turn the key off, then reconnect the cable, his logic was that doing it that way dumped the power out of the system capacitors. I don't know if this theory is correct, but it's what I've done when all else fails... The other thing is, are you flooring and holding on the floor the gas pedal?? This is the venerable clear engine position, ecu's are programmed to see this and cut off fuel in the start mode, I have read in many forums, works on carb'd engines, as well... My 98 needs this treatment on occasion in winter time when it's zero and below, it'll start, snort, and die, and will not fire again until I just squeeze the throttle and spin it over. some inaccuracies in my ecu, I guess... Something one lives with... when it does this, it refuses to idle, as well, for a moment or two... perhaps just a quarter squeeze of the accelerator would be worth a try, as well.

Limp mode is something the ECU does when it detects certain failures, or lack of proper voltage signals, it's not something you can do to it... I allowed a mechanic to slave the ECU out of my 98 once, it didn't cure anything, and when it was put back in my truck, it ran like poop for about 5 minutes. Ebay was a good source for my 95s new ECU, $20, but it turned out my problem was an erratic fuel pump. You have to have the precise ECU for your truck, 4wd, auto, displacement, and year model, for the 95, it had to be a 2 door standard cab, too, if I remember correctly. theres a 10 or so digit number on a paper sticker that has to match, almost. the tolerance was, the first 4 digits had to be something like 5220 - 5275, or smething like that. (bear in mind this was for my particular 95 model) through deep research at what people are offering on ebay, you can figure out exactly which ECU you'll need. Is your fuel pump pressure steady? having fuel pressure one second, does not mean it always is, I found that out the extremely expensive way, by shotgun troubleshooting, stick your gauge beneath a wiper, and observe it...
