Fuel pressure is steady. Can my pickup coil be a result of this mishap?

Air, fuel, spark. Yup, could be... I am truly disgusted by the working conditions one must endure while performing maintenance on the distributor on these machines, must've been sitting at a computer monitor while designing the engine vs firewall relationship on these trucks. If I were you, if you're taking the uncomfortable plunge, I'd bring a new cap and rotor too, and some antiseize for the screws, IF you can even get them out without drilling. whatever happened to spring clips???? (Oh heavens, I'm showing my age again) The good ol 383s, 400s, & 440s had distributors in the front, too... So did the pre 67 318s...

OK, this is my next angle, does it spin over evenly from cylinder to cylinder on the starter? or does it spin over like a nervous coyote? If it spins evenly from cylinder to cylinder, I would think the timing set was OK, if it doesn't, I'd look at checking the ignition timing to see if it jumped time due to a tired chain or worn sprockets. If I think of other angles, I'll check in, I know exactly how aggravating and expensive this can be, I've been there, when the trouble shows its cause, it'll be forehead slapping time, thats the worst part...

Also, can you set the engine oil dipstick on fire with a match? if so, its flooded beyond belief, and you'll need to change oil, and pull the plugs, spin the motor (ground the distributor end of the coil wire when you do this, or you'll need a new ignition coil, too) put the plugs back in, after clearing the motor, and then maybe things'll be OK...
