Wow this is the first I have seen about the Y-pipe. Do not like! I guess i should look to replace that while I am swapping out the muffler.

Looking good the BlackRamHemi!!! That's exactly what I want to do.. Only 2 problems. 1- no exhaust shop has stainless piping here 2- and this is kinda the kicker, no mandrel pipe bender! So I found this website that sells Magnaflow hi-flow cats and universal stainless piping. Should I order 2 pieces of piping that have a 90 degree bend in them or a 45 degree. Obviously the shop will be cutting it to fit but this way its stainless and bent properly.

I am surprised that the MIDAS Muffler shops don't have the proper bending machine & can't order stainless exhaust pipe, in your part of Canada
muffler shops near you

Take it to another shop, one that knows what they are doing. Any mechanic worth their salt should be able to see why you want to replace the stock crushed y pipe.

Oh I know MIDAS can do this for me, I just don't get along with them anymore after I had some issues with the quality of their work on a previous vehicle. It was a few years ago now, actually about 10 years ago I'd guess. Maybe I should go back... I am just going to order 2 prefab pipes, and some cats, O2 simulators and get some JBA headers If I have enough piping left I'll turf my resinators. I like the guy at the other shop, he installed my muffler and has an 08 1500. I just introduced him to the site today

My 4x4 was done at a quality shop that knew as soon as I asked for a Y-pipe install,
that I would also want mandrel bent stainless steel pipe sections to replace the squash bent sections they remove for a smoother flow.

Stock crush bent y-pipe:

New Magnaflow Y $27

The cheap crushed bent aluminum bargain exhaust shop crap would defeat the purpose of doing a performance Y install (IMHO).
Why? because a single crushed 90 bend can decrease flow by almost 20% , add up a number of bends and you just wasted your money.

Here's mine installed with 2 large smooth transition Mandrel Bent Stainless Steel sections (only $15 ea)

So about $60 in parts, and no more than $90 in labor to get it done right.

Looks really good, can't wait to get mine done.

Did you notice a difference immediately with the Y-Pipe? I have the Magnaflow 14" right now the AirRaid CAI and want it a little bit louder and obviously some performance boost would be nice.

Hey BlackRamHemi

What shop did you go to? I'm in Etown also and was thinking about doing the Y pipe. Was there a sound difference?

ABC, They stock a lot of Magnaflow products (including Y pipes and mandrel bent pipe and tips)
... just give them a call for a quote and book an appointment.

or just stop in ...it aint pretty like the new Midas/Speedy shops but
they KNOW performance exhaust.

Sound is about the same.
