My 4x4 was done at a quality shop that knew as soon as I asked for a Y-pipe install,
that I would also want mandrel bent stainless steel pipe sections to replace the squash bent sections they remove for a smoother flow.

Stock crush bent y-pipe:

New Magnaflow Y $27

The cheap crushed bent aluminum bargain exhaust shop crap would defeat the purpose of doing a performance Y install (IMHO).
Why? because a single crushed 90 bend can decrease flow by almost 20% , add up a number of bends and you just wasted your money.

Here's mine installed with 2 large smooth transition Mandrel Bent Stainless Steel sections (only $15 ea)

So about $60 in parts, and no more than $90 in labor to get it done right.

Very nice work I will be in the edmonton area in a couple of weeks can you please forward me the shop information so I can make a appointment Thanks in advance up north

wow thats brutal original stock.... so every single stock y dual exhaust is that bad eh? So did you redo your entire exhaust or muffler and Y?

Im going to get mine done after SAIT in 2 months. I was going to just do the muffler for the sound and performance but the Y mid as well get done as well if thats the case. Im just in Calgary so Im sure theres a decent shop i could find but if not i would drive to edmonton for that quality of work if you get my drift...

Make a day of it goto west ed!

BlackRamHemi, you say the Magnaflow CatBack is an easy DIY job. I have never worked on or installed an exhaust/muffler/anything like that. Is it doable for beginners or do you need experience? I just installed my aFe CIA myself two weeks ago, so I am thinking of trying to install it myself.

I myslef just bought an 2011 ram Express and i just had new Magnaflow super 40's put on and the reason why they dont touch the Y pipe is that it will Void the factory warranty

On a brand new truck the swap is a piece of cake because the stock clamp/bolts are not rusted. No cutting required, bolts right in, and a direct stock replacement. (5 band clamps)

a set of ramps for your rear tires, a creeper, a set of sockets is all you need.
Lots of WD40 on the rubber hangers and it should take you about an hour.

I took my truck up to Midas the other day and when I asked for 3" mandrel bent I was told "I only work with 2.5'' pipe and it's a normal bend." "Normal" was his definition of crush bent aluminized pipe. Not to mention he quoted me $700 for a SIDO exhaust system without tips and not the material or the quality work I was looking for.

GEEZ, some shops have no effin clue

word of mouth keeps them in business
2 customers tell 2 prospective customers, that tell 2 other people .......

& that person that thinks a good flowing Y pipe VOIDS a warranty, maybe you ought to check out MOPARS Cat Back system, no flattened Y pipe
