Default Radio?

I just got the new Sirius bill, and the yearly cost has me thinking.

I have the RES radio with the Sirius receiver. I was thinking that I could use the money that would go to Sirius to pay partially for a Remote CD Changer.. What I was wondering.. Is there a CD changer that could be added/or in replacement to the Sirius radio that the RES radio would control like it controls the Sirius ?? This might be a wild goose chase, but I'd rather put money toward something that won't have to keep putting money out for than Sirius.

Thanks,

Andy

I was thinking PAC Audio made one, but not for your vehicle.
Im just curious on what your ultimate goal is for your stereo. More music without having to swap CD's?

I am going off of the assumption that you have some sort of portable music player.
An idea would be to add a product like this (for any mp3 player) http://www.pac-audio.com/productDeta...&CategoryID=45
or this one (specific to iPod/phone) http://www.pac-audio.com/productDeta...&CategoryID=36
If you have any kind of MP3 player you can run it through these. It works of the the Principal of an FM modulator except this taps into your radio antenna. This increases the quality of the sound/signal.

I have also head of people telling Sirius that are over priced and they will not pay the normal fees. Some people have gotten it reduced over the phone. Others have waited for the renewal notices to show up in the mail. Once you are expired they will send notices with lower prices.
Hope this helps you out.

There are three things that have been going through my alleged brain.

1. For Sirius being no commercial music, every once in a while I hear a commercial.

2. They're starting to play more and more songs that I can take or leave, figured that I would be better off just having CD's of songs that I like.

3. A single payment for a CD changer and I no longer have to pay for a yearly subscription. And will go a longer way with my wife who has been unemployed for over a year.

Granted, I could plug my MP3 player into the front of my radio, but I still can't controll the player through the radio. Changing songs is like fiddling with a cell phone, and I don't want to risk getting a ticket for that. I tend to change songs as the mood hits me (I don't listen to all the songs I like all the time depending on my mood).

I played the trick of calling them and they gave me a discount last year, so I know that trick, and if they're willing to discount it once, they should make that price the standard pricing.

Your MP3 player is it an iPod or something else?

I thought of something else, but I dont know if it will work for a 2009 vehicle. On my 2011 I have a built in hard drive on my radio. You can transfer your music from a thumb drive or I believe even copy it straight from the CD to the internal hard drive.

You can find the radios for sale on Ebay and even here from people that decided to go aftermarket. The thought would be to upgrade your radio to a factory one with a hard drive. Of course that is if its possible to do.

It's an MP3 player not an Ipod..

I suppose I could have the dealer swap the radio with an REQ (same as mine but with a 6 cd changer built in) or the RER or REN (radios with video display).. But it would cost more than just a couple of years of Sirius.. But now that I think about it.. Maybe I'll check ebay and Craig's for one of those radios.

Thanks,

Andy

Look at Alpine..they have a remote CD changer and if your head unit has an AUX function, this might work.

I found a used REQ radio on ebay for cheap.. So I bought it.. I'm hoping that it's a direct plug in for the RES. I'll let you know how I make out when I get it.

If anyone has any idea if I'll need to have the computer flashed after the install to get it to work correctly, let me know.

Thanks!

Andy

Why not just make a few MP3 cd's? You can fit roughly 120 songs if you burn it as a data cd
