Default Tow/Haul

If I use this mode, should I just let the transmission shift normally or should I shift it "manually" like I do without the Tow/Haul turned on?

I'm thinking it will lock out 5th gear. I imagine it will change the shift points in the other gears.

It looks like the "traction control" default is "On". Pushing the button shuts it "Off".

I'm learning slow but sure. I've had the truck since early April and only have 2300 miles on it.

The more I drive it the more I like it. I REALLY have to watch it around town as 40 mph comes up pretty easy.

Got to love that Hemi with 3.92's.

The + and - on your shifter is not for manually shifting the truck (although I wish it was). That system is more of a "gear limiter". For example, if you are in 3rd gear and hit -, the truck will shift down and then not shift up, you've essentially limited the tranny to 2nd gear. It would still shift down to 1st, but again, it would not shift to 3rd. Maybe you know this and that is what was meant by "manually".

In response to the original issue... yes, you can let it shift normally. I have limited my truck to 4th before, but that's only when I have a large trailer in tow and maybe going through a hilly area that way the tranny isn't being overworked by shifting up and down so much. Also, tow/haul, with the rpm shift points changed, seems to provide much better engine braking when towing a large load. That's always a plus in my book.

Shifting manually does not limit the gear. The truck will shift if it hits rev limiter so you don't mess up the truck even in manual mode

It does limit the gear under normal driving conditions. The upshift you speak of is simply a protection, and you are right the truck will do that. Unless racing or something similar, you shouldn't be redlining anyway. Still, yes it is meant as a gear limiter.

I use mine manualy when going steep hills. I shift down to keep from riding my brakes all the way down. Also if you want to get out of manual just hold the shifter over to the plus for aobut 3 seconds it will go back to auto while in tow haul and not in tow haul.
