Default Wanted: dead Fobik remote/key

I'm really curious as to what is inside the Fobik key that has Dodge charging $150 each. I'd like to take one apart and see how many and what type of ICs are in there.

If they are using a discrete EPROM, then it is entirely possible to refurbish one of these keys by putting in a new EPROM chip. This is not a trivial task, nor one for the inexperienced, but it is practical.

If anybody has a dead fobik, let me know and I see if there is a way to ship postage due (UPS maybe?). Note that this would be a destructive analysis!

thnx
MikeK

Good luck getting a old key - someone might have one to donate.

buying & programming through a locksmith is much cheaper than going through the dealership

take a small flat head screw driver or the Sentry key & place it in the slot where the sentry key slides in, give it a slight twist, the FOB will split open
then take the battery out, the mini board is directly under the battery
