Default Just Muffler Swap vs Muffler Swap with Y-Pipe

I am aware that the factory Y-Pipe looks constrictive. I am aware that most everyone assumes this causes flow issues for our exhaust systems. I am aware that most people modding their exhaust system are choosing to cut the factory Y out and go with a Magnaflow Y-Pipe.

My question is this: Does anyone have real data that proves that replacing the factory Y-Pipe is truely better in the way of power and mpgs than just replacing the factory muffler alone? I know it looks better. I know in theory it makes sense. I just want to see some kind of proof. Why would CJD design and manufacture an exhaust system with a obvious bottle neck?

Real world data would be great, but the cost vs results pry wouldnt be worth it. If i werent getting headers I would just replace from the y to the muffler because I have never seet a stock y that wasnt restrictive in some why or another. A new y can be bought or made for so cheap why not replace it anyway? By itself it may do little to nothing, but stack up a few of those little to nothing mods and all of a sudden youve got some things worth doing

I just ordered one, IM not expecting anything huge but with a CAI and ported TB bringing in more air and non restrictive muffler to get rid of it. It doesn't make much sense to me for it to be choked in the middle. Its like turning your garden hose on full blast then pinching the middle and expecting it to come out at the same rate it goes in. Its a supporting mod and for $27, can't beat it. If you don't have a good intake and non restrictive muffler than its probably not gonna make much difference.

I have no issue with updating the Y-Pipe. It makes alot of sense and I am sure it is a good useful Mod. I just hear alot of opinions with little to no evidence that the Mod actually produces better performance. I doubt we will ever see a study on it either.

I've often wondering about the y pipe as well...my local muffler shop didn't wanna put in a new y pipe, he said it'd be useless. So, I ended up getting a half-assed dual exhaust! Two pipes, y pipe welded onto a 1 in/2 out Magnaflow 18" muffler, and two pipes out.
