Default What times do you guys get, 2wd rcsb?

Hi all,

There aren't too many 4th gen rcsb 2wd hemi trucks out there. Of the ones that are, a good portion seem to be r/t's. Mine is one of the non-r/t ones, and I've run it down the track quite a few times. There is a 1/4 mile track about 4 miles from my house, which makes it convenient. Also convenient is the fact that I live at low elevation, about 200 feet. During the late fall time, this can make for some good conditions to drag race in.

Any of you guys have 4th gen rcsb 2wd hemi trucks that you've run down the track? My best ever time in the '09 was a 13.72 at 98.6. I should be able to find some timeslips when I get back home this coming week.

I find it odd that the '09 r/t that was magazine tested sometime in '08 only managed a 14.40. I'm guessing either the driver didn't know what he was doing (for example, maybe he didn't know how to effectively use 2nd prime to bridge the gap between 2nd and 3rd gear) or maybe the ambient conditions were really bad. At least one guy has gotten his r/t into the 13.70's stone stock. His screen name was jdustu, though I don't remember what forum he was posting on as it was a couple of years ago.

Anyway, rcsb hemi guys post 'em up!

Outstanding.....what are your 60 ft. times?

I think, I have seen these times posted on another forum. Is your truck stock, or lightly modded?

Do you hold the shifter to the left, (in 1) and let it shift, or are you shifting it manually?

What is the highest speed that you have it, in 4th gear?

Thanks for a response.

My best was a 2.04. The truck is stone stock. Not I-did-something-but-you-can't-see-it stock, I mean dead stock. No programmer, no aftermarket anything on the entire truck. I also run on 87 octane, believe it or not. The spare tire is where it belongs, and the tailgate is both installed and closed.

Here's the way I run the truck: I do not put it in tow/haul. I don't think doing that hurts, it just doesn't help. It raises shift points, but not at full throttle. I then use a very specific procedure with the shifter to get the transmission to use 2nd prime without running against the rev limiter. I select 2nd gear when I'm rolling up to the start line. After I leave the line, I wait until it shifts into 2nd. When it does, I bump the button and select 3rd, which is really 2nd prime. The truck does not shift into 2nd prime until it needs to-the point is to NOT SELECT 3 WITH THE SHIFTER UNTIL THE TRUCK IS ACTUALLY IN 2ND GEAR. As soon as it shifts into 3nd prime, I hold the + button on the shifter for a second or two so that it is in drive range. From then on, the truck is in normal mode. If you think about it, you'll see that I've essentially had the shift indicator showing the next gear up, so that I'm staying ahead of the transmission. This prevents me from ever reacting too late and hitting the rev limiter. The only condition that must be met for the transmission to use 2nd prime is that the gear selector must be advanced from 2 to 3 WHILE THE TRANSMISSION IS ACTUALLY IN 2ND GEAR. Simply selecting 3 while waiting at the starting line will NOT do it. My method keeps you from having to watch the tach like a hawk, which in turn means you won't accidentally delay a shift and hit the rev limiter.

For launching the truck, I run it up against the converter GENTLY before leaving the line. Probably 1500 rpm or so should do it. If you try to really run it up against the converter hard it seems to trigger some extra torque management, either that or you blow the tires away. When I go to leave, I press the pedal to the floor in a controlled fashion, I don't slam it.
As for my speed in 4th gear, I think that's the gear I finish the pass in. If so, that would be 98.6 mph, which is my best trap speed so far.

^^I gotta try that! Thanks for the very helpful info. One more thing, do you have your traction control turned off?

If you've got 3.92's you're pretty close to an R/T in weight/performance.
Guessing your ST also has smaller lighter 17" wheels/tires too ? The R/T's are slower when rolling 20's/33's
I drop almost a half second when I swap my 305/50R20 Grappler's on stock 20's for 295/45R17's

The DA is a huge factor at 200' as well, on a cool day/evening you should have a very fast ET.
I can only dream of such low DA numbers, we're usually at over 4000' DA most of the Summer,
When the weather finally cools off, they shut down from October to April due to snow,
so consequently our best runs are either early Spring or late Fall.

My best run with my heavier 4x4 RCSB Sport and crappy 3.55's is 13.8/98.5 at 2536' DA (yes, using 2nd prime )
Typical base mods (Intake/Exhaust/Tune and Tires) DA corrected = 13.4/101.6
My dyno numbers are only 309hp/347tq , barely over stock, many even post higher stock HP numbers than that.

My best 60' since I swapped out the stock TC for a 2800 stall from Edge is a 1.912
Seems about the same whether I use 2WD or AWD, choice depends on track prep and conditions.

To answer the question a couple posts above, I generally turn traction control off. I don't think it much matters on a good pass, as wheelspin is basically nonexistent, and thus wouldn't trigger the traction control anyway. I turn it off just in case I overdo it a bit at the starting line, so that if it spins a little when I leave it won't fall on it's face because of the traction control, and I may still get a decent pass.

And yes, I have 3.92's and 17's. I specifically bought a truck with those exact options to get the quickest possible truck for the least money. I feel like I got more than I had a right to expect. I'd like to say that I have the quickest stone stock hemi truck on the planet, but I don't know for sure that's true. So far I know of no one claiming to have gone quicker stock.

You are the Man........when I stated that I too, do a slight torque brake, to
about 1,200 to 1,500 RPM. Others made a stink, and said it is quicker just to stand on it from idle. My 2.20 with my stock QC with 20's, was better than most, another QC owner from Virginia, was cutting 2.198 60ft. times with a slight preload also. If that technique (very slight torque brake) pulls timing etc., as many claim......it certainly can't be much, if at all, or we would not be running that hard out of the gate.

you'll run quicker if you can find a way to keep it out of 4th at the end...and you can, when in 3rd and it hits 5000 rpm's, shift the lever back into 2nd and it will hold 3rd gear through the traps..

Or..just never shift to fourth! I tried it tonight. Start with it in 2, shift to 3 as soon as it shifts into 2nd, and you'll end up going through 4 gears. 1st, 2nd, 2nd prime, and 3rd. I got pulled over while trying this...I got off with a warning
