Silverado is on a distinguished road
Default 3.55 or 3.92?

I own a 2008 Silverado 4x4 with 4.10 gears. I average around 14 to 15 L/100 KMs. I am seriously looking at trading my truck in for a 2011 Longhorn. I occasionally tow a 6500 lb travel trailer but most of my driving is back and forth to work, etc and highway driving. The 2011 Ram Crew Cab 4x4 is rated for 8350 lbs and 14000 GCWR, which is the same as my Silverado. The Ram with 3.92 gears is rated for 10,000 lbs but I am worried about poor fuel economy. Any advice?

My Ram with the 3.92's is averaging the exact mileage your getting with your Silverado, jump on the Ram you won't be disappointed. Right now on super long highway runs I'm averaging 10.5 to 11.5 L/100kms when the MDS kicks in she is really fuel efficient considering whats purring under the hood. If your anywhere close to me give me a shout and I'll let you take her for a drive!

get the 3.92s especially if you tow you wont be disappointed around town the 3.92s seem to get about the same or a little better fuel economy on the highway the 3.55s will do a little better but not much

I also have the 3.92s and love them, I tow about 6500 to 7000 with no problems.

If your towing, you might as well opt for the 3.92's. I personally have had my 3.55's for a year and have no problem with them, but i havent towed anything heavy with mine, im going to opt for gears once i lift with tires. But until then, my 3.55's have been great

I have 3.55s in my truck and I pull ~5,000 lb camp trailer one or two weeks a year. If you tow a 5,000+ load fairly frequently, I'd opt for the 3.92 gears. On the flat I doubt you would see or feel hardly any difference in the way the vehicle responds. The engine has enough snort to get a load moving and keep it at speed with the 3.55 gears. Pulling a steep hill is different and it has more to do with the tranny. There's about a 1,600 rpm difference between the top two gears in tow mode. The kick down takes forever and the situation goes from you thinking the engine is going to lug out to a scream'n mimmie. I would hope the 3.92 gears would mitigate this sort of transition. I understand there are programmers to help this as well, but I don't tow enough to justify the expense. Just some thoughts to consider.

Hi and a warm Carolina welcome to the best RAM ForumZ on the web. How about posting a few photos of your truckwhen you break down and get one? I've got the 3.55's and would have gone with the 3.92's had the truck been on the lot with them. I'd prefer the Limited Slip that is only available on the 3.92's at present. Hear the '12's will have LS option on both.

My '11 has 3.55's and the LSD, so your post has me confused

i have the 3.55 LSD and it's great for me (for what it's worth, i don't tow anything). if the dealership had the same truck with 3.92's i would have gone with that, simply because the fuel economy difference between the two is negligible. also i came from an '08 GMC Sierra and i've yet to be disappointing with the new Ram
