I forgot I had posted bout this noise and I now see I'm not the only one. I too have Removed the seat cover I placed on the rear seats, took stuff out of the under seat storage, checked seat belts, checked jack under passenger seat, checked step bar bolts. Haven't checked the wheel well liners yet.

I did call my dealership service dept but they have not heard of this either!!!

Man I thought I had the problem fixed when i got under yesterday and tapped on the heat shield above the muffler and it made the same clanking sound that I hear from inside the cab. I bent it down somewhat away from the cab's metal. It didn't work, noise is still there. Today I drove to work with the rear seat in the up position to see if I can hear it any better. Driving me absolutely nuts!!!

I may be having the same noise. I thought it was my bed or the tailgate. I was closing the gas tank door & it made the rattle. It sounded like it was coming from the front of the bed next to the cab, so i took the palm of my hand & kinda "tapped" the front part of the bed & sure nuff there was the sound. Im gonna take it to my dealer & get them to look & see if some bolts are loose or something. You may try yours & see if its the same noise. Just a suggestion.

Sounds like the noise is external becaue it's louder with your windows down. Whenever I run across similar noises I crawl underneath the car or truck with a rubber mallet and tap on everything in sight. I usually find the problem that way. These kind of Demons make you not want to drive the vehicle but when you find them life is good again. Good luck.

Dealer has had vehicle for 3 weeks working on some missing items from the windo sticker and while there looking at this clank and rattle. They have not figured it out yet. I know they used a rubber mallet to tap on things cause the tech left in in the car which i returned. Even the service writer drove in the bed while the tech drove to try an pinpoint the location. I know from inside it sounds like its coming from the bottom corner pillar of the body???

Bringing it again the day after Xmas!!!

Problem solved!!!!!

Support bracket bolt for step bars that attaches to truck frame.

Even though the bolt was super tight any body twist caused the metal bolt against the frame to squeak but sounded like a piece of metal rattling. To solve this the dealer put a big piece of 1/8 inch hard plastic between the bolt and the frame. Noise is now gone. These were aftermarket step bars not Dodge OEM. Just before this fix the noise was getting worse with colder air temps. Was tolerable to a point in summer but now it was getting ridiculous.

Anyway glad its gone, hope this helps someone else out there.
