Ok i am new to this sight and not sure how everything works for if this topic has been covered before... I have a ram with a 318 and i started getting a bad grinding noise from the front rear when i hit bumps. After doing some searching i took off the actuater to find that there was parts of what used to be a seal and the fork was ground down to almost nothing on the sides. I took it out and put it all together and just left it for now. What would be the idle way to repair this problem so that this does not happen again? And what can i do to stop the grinding until i get the parts?

Welcome to the forum. There's not much you can do to stop the grinding until you replace the parts.

The best way to repair it is to use OEM or authorized reproduction parts back to factory spec. This is a wear area so you can't stop such wear indefinitely.

I assume your truck has a few miles on it?

It only has 128000 i didnt think that that was to bad considering the year.. Where it is all mangled and i going to get the new stuff for it i was looking at a perm-lok setup so that it stays locked all the time and i dont have to worry about it cause from what i have read it wont mess anyting up cause you still have to lock the transfer case for 4x4...

That is true but you realize that full time 4WD will really affect your MPG plus wear on other drivetrain components will increase.

The part that is bad is the actuator that conects the intermediate shaft and the shaft for the pass front wheel. From what i have read that will not make it four wheel drive until the transfer case is ingaged... Right?
