I had one on my '06 with the 4.7 and it worked well. I pulled it off later because I kept getting a vacuume leak code. Put on a K&N and never had the code again.

I had a cheap ebay intake kit on my previous vehicle. I could tell the difference. It worked fine but I also used my K&N filter with it as the filters are usually really cheap as well. The only thing that I think you sacrifice is that the plastic ones do not soak up the engine heat as much as the aluminum ones do. Also, think about it this way, one of my old chevy's had an Airaid brand cold air intake (similar to K&n intakes) and one of the first to market, there intake set up is almost identical to those cheapies on ebay. At the price of those cheap ones, I say go for it.

Ideally, you want a CAI that has a enclosed box and has a smooth tube going from the box to the TB... and of course you want as large as possible filter and ID tubing for the best airflow.

Why would Dodge make the inlet for the air-box be going into a constrictive fender well? Would it not be better to turn it 90 degrees (counter clockwise-facing the ground) so that is is pulling from a larger volume of air (instead of pointing at the finder well it would be pointing at the ground)? I understand the air could be hotter (since engine and radiator are tangent to the open engine bay, but would the shear volume of air getting to the air-box then the filter/tubing/throttle body be so much more that it would improve air flow? What are the chances of getting vapor lock or sucking up water? (Wouldn't you have to be going through like 2.5-3 feet of water. Doesn't rain that much here in Texas.)

when idling the air temp will go up cuase no air is flowing into the compartment...with it pointing forward, when you drive you gets fresh air "pushed" in so to speak...if it was pointing straight down, it would get air sucked out and have a loud whistle (blow across the top of a coke bottle).... AirRam does make a scope that forces more are from the grill area into the intake tube from the grill area.
