Default 1994-97 5.2 Y engines

I want to know the differences between the 5.2 Y engine with EGR hole and the 5.2 Y without EGR hole. If you just change the intake, is everything else on the engine the same? If not, what else needs changed/ replaced? I am trying to avoid changing the ECM, wiring, ect. My nephew totaled his 95 Dakota with the 5.2 Y engine, but he can not tell if it has the EGR hole or not, they are not very mechanically inclined and live 5 hours away. What will be involved in the swap if mine has the EGR hole and his doesn't?

Any applicable info would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

'92-'95 are OBD I and have EGR. '96 and newer are OBD II and do not have EGR. Also, the connectors on the various sensors, even things like the coil were changed, though, internally and functionally, they're the same. On Magnums, there's an EGR port on the passenger side exhaust manifold. Anyway, as long as you match accordingly, you can swap engines with no worries. Also remember that they changed the bolt pattern on the flexplate so you cannot mix flexplates and torque converters. They must be a matched pair. The newer set is used now to replace the pre-'96 setup. This isn't an external balance weight issue like on the 5.9, just a difference in bolt pattern.

Just looked the qustion again. Basically, use your intake, exhaust, coil and probably distributor too if the donor is an OBD II. I suspect the disributo connector changed as well.
