Default Growling Noinse

I have a new 2011 Ram 1500 Crew Cab, I often hear a growling type noise on the right side, it starts at 40 to 50 mph usually as I climb a slight incline or even on level going. The noise will stop when I let up on the throttle, I don't always hear the noise but it comes and goes. A friend of mine has a 2009 Ram 1500 SLT Crew cab and he has same problem. Dearler could not duplicate noise but I'm sure they are aware of others?? Any ideas?

There are several threads regarding this issue. One of them is close by.

In my case, I had the same noise and it ended up being a torque converter replacement that solved the problem.

The final solution did not come easy and I won't go through the whole deal again in this reply. My story is long and it is somewhere on this forum if you care to do a search.

My belief is that a boat load of Ram trucks got a boat load of F'ed-up foreign made(non-north American, sorry if that offends anyone) torque converters. Period.

I have been reading more and more stories lately in regard to this issue.

I truly understand your frustration and I hope you can get the problem solved.

I don't think its the MDS system. I have the noise when the MDS is not in use. I think its has something to do with the torque converter. I can make the noise at will. Ram goes into dealer Friday. Of course, dealer has never heard of this before....Wish me luck!

Cool noise

At what point does this become a recall item?

I agree. If the problem is not related to safety, we won't see a recall.

I'm experiencing the same sounds. I've kinda heard it from the beginning, but as the air temps cool, I seem to hear it more pronounced... guess I need to set up a meet with the dealership....

Don't leave dealership untill tech hears what U are hearing. Thats what I did. At 1st, tech said he could not hear the noise. Techs here like to write on ticked..can not duplicate sound.
