Default What is needed to put 6.1 hemi into 5.7 truck?

I doubt it is a direct swap. So what "extra" parts are needed to make it fit?

Keeping stock transmission and everything else.

I be its all electrical/sensor related. You would need a naw CAI because of the forward facing TB instead of the upward pointing TB.

Im sure there is more, that is just what i could think of off of the top of my head. I bet the engine mounts and trans pattern is the same

Hmmm. I figured it would be wider needing different motor mounts, maybe a transitional plate at the trans to line the bolts up, etc.

Has anyone done it?

you sent me to that link in another question I asked, and it mostly talks about putting a newer 5.7 or 6.1 into an older car, even non-Mopar cars.

I would think slapping a 6.1 into a stock 5.7 car would be easier than putting a 6.1 into my Ford Maverick, or other older car.

i may have given you that address before, but did you try contacting any of those companies mentioned to see if they have any insight as to a 5.7 to 6.1 swap?

i Googled a swap, could only find a post from 2006

10-02-2006, 05:25 PM no srt-8 in the future of the rams. i'm subcontracted put though roush for chrylser and do alot of ORVT, along with lexus and toyota.
as far as the swap, the 6.1 and 5.7 are the same basic motor, just the 6.1 is bored out, with different heads and a HUGE intake manifold with some big ass runners. you will need to modify the hood of the truck to het the heighth correct. as far as the motor mounts, im pretty sure they will be the same, but some cutting and welding should fix that up if need be. and for tranny, that im not too sure about. if you ahve a shortbed, shortcab, id go with a full srt-8 swap out of a charger for rwd, or super-skittle(grand cherokee) for awd, but the awd may be more work than worth.
your main problem is goin to be computers. the 5.7 hemi that is out now has a totally different computer that the 6.1(just wait till the next gen 5.7 comes out) the srt-8 motor has about 11 seperate computers(pcm, ecm, abs, etc etc) whereas oyour 5.7 has 5, i think.

IMHO, get an SKS aft turbo kit with intercooler, cam the motor, long tubes, port the heads, and get an ecm flash. youll be at an easy 500-550 rwhp. then if you feel the need, throw on a sneaky pete 75 wetshot. trust me, ive looked into a 6.1 swap a lil, and with my experience with workin on these motors all the time, pullin, installin, workin and flashin them, i know what im talkin about.

Thanks! That is the kind of info I was looking for!

I am not looking for more power, but if my 200k motor decides to give up the ghost in the next couple years, I was wanting to know what my options are. If the 6.1 was an easy swap, I would look into it more seriously. But the hood and intake issues alone are way more than I would want to do.

A .030 over 5.7 might be all i need. And I could do that myself. If i didn't care about losing my daily driver for a few weeks while I order parts and rebuild it.

The 360 hp or so I have now tows my boat just fine, and still pull 22 mpg on highway (not while towing, of course!).

Hmmm. Sneaky Pete...

I have a 150 shot on my maverick. It wouldn't be all that hard to mount the solenoids on my intake and give the 5.7 a little boost!

Would I need to mount both the fuel and nitrous solenoids, or would the fuel injection kick in and keep the fuel ratio up on it's own just squirting in the nitrous.

Just asking for a REASON to HAVE to swap the engine, now.

There is no way I would do this to a 200k mile engine on a daily driver.
