Chrysler uses a pinion and gear speedo that is inside a adapter housing then the electronic meter device in bolted onto this housing. Anyways generally you would be required to index the speedo along with changing the pinion gear on the speedo to match tire size+axle ratio. Their are charts online to help you in choosing the proper gear for the speedo based on what size tire and what gear ratio for example 29" tires with a 3.55 ratio would mean you need a 33 tooth gear and the speedo must be indexed to the 6 o clock position. So I'm wondering if you upgraded the tires and rims to larger or smaller idk. If not then you probably just need a new pinion gear and sensor. Othen then that some transmissions just use a speed sensor but I doubt yours does. Many of the older transmissions used plain speed sensors and not VSS vehicle speed sensors. Tell me your results the question is did you upgrade the wheels? Or differential?

no mods to either, stock truck stock alloys. is it possible the mech. in the cluster that lifts the needle messed up? when i start driving the needle does ot move until i hit 30mph, soon as i hit 30 the needle jumps from 0-30 and reads fine like normal from 30mph and up.

It's possible that it's just the gauge in the instrument cluster, more probable then possible lol. If it's not the gauge in the cluster then it's just the vehicle speed sensor itself, the sending unit as most like to call it. First thing I would do for the sake of thoroughness is to lay on your back and crawl under the car towards the rear of the transmission if it's a 4WD then the speed sensor will probably be attached on the transfer housing elsewise it would be on the extension housing. The sensor has 3 wires, GND, +, Sig
Just check to see if it's all connected and not loose oh also check for any transmission fluids inside the plug sometimes the sensor will have a tiny leak and will accumulate inside the plug. After that I would look into a new gauge. Do know that the gauges from chrysler run around 100 bucks or more. I can get you one for around 10 bucks my best guess but I am limited on the parts I can get because they are from older vehicles.

Yea the VSS should be located on the extension housing in the 2WD models or on the trans axle in the 4WD models. LKQ Jax good place to get parts, I go to LKQ Daytona
