I wish I had known about this stuff when I had my 3rd gen trucks. I would have ripped it apart to see if this was possible. I wish I could say one way or the other if it was possible, but will have to wait for your analysis.

This is awesome Brad. I never would have even dreamed of this. I also suffer from hay fever in the spring so this is definitely going in my truck. As always, you did an excellent write-up as well. My rep power ain't much but you still get 100% of what I have to give.

I hear you on the hay fever....but mine is worst at this time of year. Harvest dust is my nemesis. Since I installed this filter, and it's only the basic Dodge one, I have no harvest dust issues while in my truck.

And I'm not here for the reps....but sure appreciate them. I'm here to share my passion for my Ram truck with like minded people, and boy have a learned a lot on this forum. I'm just happy that something I did has helped a few others out.

Nice job on the write up. I'm going to find out if I can get these pieces tomorrow. Have you noticed any decrease in air flow at all?? dash vents or defrost vent???

Haven't noticed any decrease in airflow, but I did not check it with an air flow meter....might have to do that sometime for curiosity sake.
Only thing I noticed was a slight difference in the sound of the fan at the higher speeds.....and the lack of dust on the dash the day after a good cleaning.

Great write up indeed! I have killer allergies all year long...except for winter. I will be doing this mod next for sure. Is there a recommendation for a filter? I figure anything will be better than nothing but I was curious to see what the majority was using.

Also, just to confirm, the arrows should be pointing down, right? I got my house HVAC on my mind and I keep picturing the filter arrows up. =) I have a 2011 1500 if that makes any difference in the way the filter should be placed.

PN 05058693AA - Filter?
PN 68052292AA -Door?

Thanks!

Unfortunately this doesn't appear to be an option for us 3rd gen owners. I ran out to look at my 08 and the cut out is not there. It may still be possible with some ingenuity but it's not gonna be as cut and dry as the newer models :-(

I found a good deal online (Amazon.com) for the new FRAM Activated Charcoal filter. It's too early to tell if it's really any better but it was only like $20 (found it locally for nearly $40!) so I thought I'd try it. I don't notice outside smells near as much now (unless the window is down! ;^)) if that counts for anything.
