Default 7000 kms towing 6000 pounds on my '09 half ton...easy!

Just got back, Toronto to Yellowstone and places in between. Full 6000 pound toy hauler w/motorcycle, fully packed with a family of 4. My loaded '09 Laramie (3.55 and 20's) never broke a sweat, temps always normal, even up the Big Horns in big heat.

Back at home & unhitched (1200 bars, husky hitch, single stabilizer), the truck feels like a sports sedan again, and back to 20+ mpg (was usually just under 10mpg on the trip).

So obviously I can speak only for trailers up to 6000 pounds, but boy am I glad I stayed with a half-ton.

Turning two years old next month - so highly recommended!

i don't tow with my '09, the Ram always weighs 6,300 pounds, 1000 pounds is tools needed for my job & a couple changes of clothes

I have driven from coast to coast USA a total of 3 round trips & several 2000 mile round trips
i wore out a set of Wrangler tires, had a cracked exhaust manifold, & the dealer replaced a drive shaft

I agree the '09 Rams are a joy to own

Great to hear! how did you pick the bars, husky hitch and stabilizers?
would you recommend these specific brands?
We just got our first trailer and it's just under 5400 lbs dry weight with a 7650 GVWR rating. We need to get ready to pick it up next week and would like to know which gear would be best for safety and ease of use and towing.

Any pictures of your trip and set up?

^ once I have time to download pics from my camera I will.

As for the set-up, I bought my trailer new at Fergeson RV and they basically recommended everything. I did ask them to upgrade the bars to 1200 pounds since my hitch weight will be high since I'd be towing a Harley and it loads at the front bedroom (bed flips up).

With the rear hard bed in the trailer is only 27 feet so I was comfortable with one stabilizer. Anything more then that I would have gotten a 2nd stabilizer.

My Hustky equipement's been great, but your RV dealer usually has the best advice for your particular application. Search the web though, sometimes what they say your trailer weighs and what it actualy weights are two different things. At 5400 pounds, you should be more than fine.

These trailer weights are from the manufacturer web site so I'll have to trust they are correct. I'm a newbie at this so I'm soaking in all the info I can (woman as well, so I don't have any type of experience but I will learn just the same)
I think the numbers add up ok
are equalizer hitch and reese hp dual cam both weight distribution hitch AND anti-sway?

how much did you town total with your Harley on board?
did you feel any sway?
