I have nothing productive to say... but if that's what you want to do... well best of luck through this endeavor.

im gona be truthfull. the 5.9 magnum doesnt have enough power... dropping a hemi will be to expensive.... i already have a 4l60 transmission...and a 5.3L of a chevy are around 300 bucks in junk yards.so there super cheap....

i know u guys im think im crazy(dumb) of this but im just a big fam of the ls1 style engines... and i already have a chevy a 6.0 silverado ss in the high 12 with cam/stall and boltons and with really good tuning,,, i dont want to leave my dodge too behind..

I agree the ls based engines are great, but like they said it will cost more than it's worth to convert it and get it to fit, run properly, have all electronics work properly, etc.... It would be cheaper to sell and get a chevy, or sell and get a newer ram. Anything is possible though, this just really doesn't seem all that wise....or cost effective...Also, all resale value of the vehicle would be gone. Every thing would be custom made(new cross members are likely to get the engine/trans to fit properly, drive shaft, good luck getting gauges, etc....to work, and so on... This would really be a PITA.

I would use a donor vehicle. That way you get all the necessary electronics, and the only thing your really doing is hooking up power and figuring out how/where to run the harness(s).

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I would take on a second job for about the time it would take to do the swap, and I would earn enough money to buy a used vehicle that would be in better condition than the one that would be created....and it would have a better resale value for when I wanted to upgrade.

On the other hand, it would be kinda cool to just do it for the sake of doing it, as I like problem solving, and that swap would definitely keep my appetite at bay.

Although I am not a proponent of mixing brands, I am guilty of running Chrysler power in all but 2 of my 'days gone by' race cars.

dropin in a hemi would be too expensive?!?! i bet itd be cheaper and i know itd be a hell of a lot easier then dropin in a chebby engine. the hemi will bolt right in, all youd have to figure out is the wireing, a chebby youll have to make custom enigine and transmission mount, plus figure out the wireing to make the chebby engine compatible with the mopar, plus with the hemi you wouldnt be discracing a mopar with a chebby engine,,,keep it mopar!!!

go for it man!! Im surprised everyone on this forum hates so much when it comes to custom stuff. Ive been in the BMW scene for years and they do some CRAZY swaps in cars- Jap motors/ LS motors/ V12's twin turbos etc etc.... Ive actually been playing with the turbo idea for my 5.9 but there isnt much info out there and while the 360 is a decent motor, it doesnt have the potential that many others out there do. By the time you are done with an LS swap, Im sure you'll save thousands over a supercharger/turbo/or Hemi swap. Ive seen LS1's go for as little as 500-700 and if they can stuff it with a t56 in a tiny 95 325i, the Ram should be CAKE. make sure you get all the OEM emissions crap and harness if you are in CA or another emission controlled state, makes life much easier

I wouldn't do it for the fact that the 5.3 is the biggest dog of an engine, and the 6.0L is even more of a disappointment.

I don't know whats wrong with your 5.9L, but, mine was able to out pull and out run a 5.3L on a few occasions. Most recently, my step dads which has half the mileage my 5.9L did.

I think its a pointless swap for no gain whatsoever. Supercharge your 5.9L if you really want some power. It'd be a lot easier and cheaper to mod the engine you have than to swap a chevy into it. Not to mention if you ever sold the truck, that would really hurt the value.
