Default Oil Dipstick

The may sound far fetched but why is the Oil Dip Stick have to be in Conflict with Owners manual? The Owners manual calls for 7 Quarts of Oil with Filter on the 5.7 Hemi. After replacing oil and filter filling up with 7 Quarts and run for a moment at Idle the dip stick reads at middle of safe above the add line. It should read at top of safe and to confuse matters worse the full line is at the First bend in the dip stick. it appears that 7.5 quarts is full line the same as the2003 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi was with an easy to read dip stick.

Any one else made ran into this or is just me?

Yup, 7 quarts in my last hemi brought it above the full mark, 7 quarts on my Ram brings it half way across the safe range. What's even more impressive though, is the multi-piece dipstick. Elegant, yet functional.

LOL...My dip is all one piece but has three full levels with none marked as full....the 1st bend in the dip stick then the mark just below the bend as 2nd then the mark at the top of safe area as 3rd before the add mark!!! Wtf Over...lol..

Did you leave at below full half way across the safe level with 7 quarts or put it below 2nd bend with 7.5 quarts if I may ask?

My 2003 Ram 5.7 held exactly 7.5 quarts with filter.

manual reads

checking the oil while the vehicle is on level ground will .......blah blah
Always maintain the oil level within the SAFE zone on the dipstick
adding 1 quart of oil when the reading when the oil reading is at the bottom of the SAFE zone, will result in a reading at the top of the safe zone on these engines

My dipstick has an etched "SAFE" on it, and 7 quarts puts it right in the middle of that safe zone, which is where I leave it. Then of course there's the 2 rivets with the upper half of the stick.

Yeah, 7.5 quarts to the top of the "safe" zone. Almost 2 gallons ! Ouch.

Since the stated oil capacity of the 5.7 is 7 quarts, I do not add any more to bring it to the top of the "safe" zone. I figure the stated capacity is a more reliable indicator than a pieced together dipstick.
