Default Quick question on the L04 Tie Rod Recall...

Guys -

I have an appt for my dealer to do my outer tie rod ends per the L04 recall.

Question - if outer tie rod ends are being replaced, shouldn't the front end be lined up as well?

Rich

Yes, it should be aligned and the dealer should do it for free under the recall.

"Should" is the key word. I went through a big production because they were initially against replacing the tie rod ends - said they would "check" them first as per the procedure with recalls, and I said the recall specifically states to REPLACE THEM.

I think I'm heading off to a different dealer because they'll definitely give me an issue with the alignment. Wish Chrysler would have stated that an alignment is required in the recall just to avoid dealer issues.

Dealer said the same thing to me when I called for appointment, they will check them first and then determine if they need to order the parts. Off to fight with them...again...

Hey guys, I just had this done on Tuesday and they did an alignment as well. When I called for an appt. the service advisor said nothing about checking the tie rods first. I asked if they were doing an alignment afterwards and he said yes. Pretty much, if you mess with the tie rods it needs an alignment...Period. Brought the truck there, they R2 'em and did an alignment. Unfortunately, my steering wheel is slightly off and they will be realigning it no charge

BTW..Turbovsix I love the name I have 2 87 GNs as well...a hardtop show car and a mean street/strip beast. Nice to see a forum member with one.

Yeah, I called another dealer I've dealt with in the past and they didn't have any issue in replacing the tie rod ends, ESPECIALLY SINCE THAT'S WHAT THE MOTHERED RECALL SAYS. And they confirmed that they "reset the toe", but they don't do a full four wheel alignment. Resetting the toe sounds about right to me I guess.

I will be writing a letter to my other dealer and ending that relationship. Just one event in a string of many bad dealings. Effing AHOLES.

I just got my notice in the mail today to have mine replaced(recall L04) I havent experinced any clunking noise like the notice said migh be caused by the outer tie rods, but I have noticed when I hit a minor bump in the road my truck will react like I just hit a deer and bounce to either the left or right. So my question is will having the outer Tie rods replaced correct this problem and tighten up the ride a little bit.

I had mine done today and alignment is part of the procedure.

I had mine done after an inspection of my front end.... After the lif tkit was installed.. At the time I had no idea there was a recall.. I was expecting a hard time because of the lift kit, but they went and had it aligned as well no issues...
