I wouldn't advise him revving too high as people have had engine failures(rockers iirc) from revving past 5800
I hadn't heard of any failures....not saying you are lying/wrong I just hadn't heard of any. I would think the hemi could spin 6k rpm safely and maybe more. I spin my 4.7L as high as my superchips will let me...I think it's 6,200 or 6,400 rpm...? But it's OHC so has less valvetrain.

Also is your CAI a real cold air intake? What one is it? If it is open to hot air under your hood it is probably hurting performance...

Yeah I forget where I read the warning about it. Although I do know people that have had parts(think it was the rockers but I may be using the wrong word) on their Hemi fail with less than 2000 miles on the truck and no tune. Sort of like the head issues on the 4.7

Did you ask him if he was manually up shifting, or if he had it in tow/haul mode. Either one of those things would have given him an advantage.

I have an AFE stage 1 CAI, Flowmaster 40 single inlet dual outlet with 18" long, 3" wide stainless steel tips. Also, I programmed my truck today to the 91 tune to see if there is any difference than just stock tune. There is a little difference, but I did notice when I get on it from a stop, when it shifts to second gear, it is a hard shift, and it seems like the truck slows down after it shifts, is that normal?

That's not a bad intake.....you are using at least 91 octane with the tune right? A full tank...? It should feel somewhat significantly faster....

Yea got the good fuel in my truck. It does feel faster, just when it shifts to second it feels like it slows down a little.

hmmm....don't know....you will have slightly less hp at the rpm after the shift than before the shift though....

The whole 87 octane tune idea makes sense. When I bought my truck the dealer had to fill it with 89 octane! As for the hot air on the intake, I fit an intake from my bro's 08 charger 5.7 to my ram 5.7. I could not use the intake shield that came with his intake, so I just put it on my truck anyway. You guys have me thinking that maybe I should take it off! I have been getting worse gas mileage since the intake install, but I believe that is just me not being able to stay off of the gas. Those hemi's sound SOOO GOOOD when they have an intake on them.

My truck also slows significantly after getting settled into second gear. First pulls like heck, tho! This is something that you noticed only after changing the tune?
