Default Need stock info for custom set up!

Hello,
Just joined the forum and I need some info on the stock suspension. I am going to be building a custom lift/suspension set up for my work beast a CC 97 4x4 1500. Currently is has monomax shocks and is on 33x12.5x15 Muds with minimal rubbing on the liner at full lock. The wheels I believe are the offroad package 15s x 8"? They are the concave 5 spoke just like the 17" version. I am going to be running a custom wheel set up in either 15 or 16" with a MUCH wider wheel (looking into 12-14" width) and sticking with the same tires or running a size wider possibly in an A/T. Also, I see some guys running high PSI in the 50+ range, Im at 40 and wonder how much higher to go for some better mileage (hankook dynapro M/T)

Info I am looking for:
Stock spring free length-
Stock spring rate-
Spring Diameter- 5.5"?

Any spring conversions/coilover set-ups for the rear available or only custom?


It appears I will have to replace the monomax with a longer shock for a 2-3" lift (correct me if I am wrong)
I have 3.92's and wonder what size tire requires/recommends a re-gear to 456s?

I know the Billy's are good for a 2" lift, what else is out the in a monotube design(I am going to be doing custom valving and spring rates, I am very familiar with coilover setups for street cars and am looking to do something different for the truck than what I have seen)

Anyone...? or am I left with doing all the grunt work myself? Does anyone on this board do anything outside the box....? Or is everyone satisfied with what is available in a "kit"?

Sorry I don't have an answer to your questions, but I would guess nobody makes a rear coil kit. You may be able to adapt the 4th gen rear suspension to your truck, it is a 4 link with a panhard bar and coil springs. Could maybe find one in a junkyard cheap? I adapted the rear watts link from the last model durango to my F100 and probably saved over $1,000 as the aftermarket kits cost thousands and I picked up everything I needed from a junkyard for a couple hundred... Do you plan on making your own coil springs? Never heard of anyone doing this, sounds difficult/maybe unsafe???

Thanks man, yea Ive looked and doesnt look like anyone makes a rear coil kit out there. As far as the springs themselves I mainly posted this looking for the spring rate and free length of the front coils so I can have a baseline for the front for a custom level set up. No I will not be making the springs myself. Eibach has a whole division (ERS) devoted to custom set ups and you can get just about any size spring in any length and rate including tender springs to make the ride a bit more comfy on the streets but stiff enough to not bottom out/rub/roll into corners

I see, didn't know that about the springs. Good luck, I am not at all a good fabricator but have a welder and was able to make the rear suspension work well on my ford. If you are a good fabricator I'm sure you can come up with a good setup. I really like pulling parts out of junkyards as they are really cheap, and usually designed well, maybe just need to tweak a few parts, and as long as you can get it to fit you basically get just as good a product as aftermarket. I ended up changing the stamped steel links from the durango watts link and made my own links with round tubing, much stronger, the rest of the suspension is just as good as aftermarket. The 4th gen rear suspension would be good for you, it is a really good/strong suspension.
