Question CB Power

Finally installing a CB in this truck. Where is the best place to grab power that is hot only with key on? Placement of CB will be in front of center jump seat. Want to place grounded fuse block under drivers seat and wire there. Have wires already there for what I assume was a disc changer that was removed. any Ideals?

^^^ Agreed. Unless you have an aftermarket radio and want to tap into the remote output of it.

It's a CB. So where else can you get this power, I use the Cigarette lighter for other plugin items (IE. phone charger,DC/AC inverter) Don't want to overload the system.

Of the other items plugged in to the cig lighter....the only one that caught my eye was the DC/AC inverter. How many watts is it?

There are precious few circuits available without doing some serious wiring, so the cig lighter is about the best place to get switched power. If your inverter is 150W or less, then no problem, but if above that, and your actually drawing the bigger power, then it may be time for same fancy wiring.

Its actually not a good practice to tap the cig lighter for power, even in the ham radio world.... Mainly cause the wire isn't the proper gauge for continuous use, hence why mobile radios come with a long red/black wire. Talking ham radios and 900mhz radios we use in EMS, we wire them to a master switch or directly to the battery...

Now if the wire is higher gauge at the cig lighter then radio wire, go for it (but be careful, consult your installation manual)

My uniden 510 xl in the truck just has a cigarette plug on it, some even come with them from the factory
I have a uniden 520xl(has a PA putput, not worth it in the truck is to loud) in my Taurus and I just have it into an accessory 20amp fuse, 2 years without any problems, I like it coming on and off with the key so my friends can't play with it and I had a tendency to leave it on.
You can look into a thing called add a fuse to do it the right way

That's exactly how I did mine in my Jeep ^^^^. Long as ya don't forget to turn it off when not in use, you'll be fine running it directly to the battery.
