Default 2011 Big Horn Needs Bigger Rubbers, but She Doesn't Want a Lift

I thought the title might grab some attention.

Before you ask - yes, I did the search. Didn't find anything conclusive, so I'm asking.

The question: I have a 2011 Big Horn. I'd like to swap out the existing tires and rims with an aftermarket set of rims equipped with Cooper Zeons, Nitto Terra Grapplers, or Toyo Open Countries.

I'd like to go a bit thicker on the tire (width, 285, 295?) with a taller profile (70?) but I'd prefer not to lift the truck up just yet. I'm guessing I'd need to stick with a 31-33" diameter.

What's the biggest I can go without rubbing the arms or wheel-well at full lock?

Thanks!

Current setup: Stock lift, stock 20" plastic chrome rims, 275/60/20 Wranglers.

cooper zeon in 275 20's are around 33 or 34 inches tall depending on how much air u run.

if u want more height, u can go w/ 285/65/20 bfg's or nitto 295's. but u will have to put on a leveling kit. they are both 35" tires

i recommend if u stay w/ the stock tire size to go w/ the nitto's or the toyos. the coopers are not great tires, cheap, yes.. but they are noisey and suck in the snow

I can personally vouch that the BFG AT KO's in 285/65r20's don't rub at all with a level kit. I think they're 34.7" tall and 11.5" wide and an awesome tire. I was looking at the Nitto's Trail Grapplers as well in 295/60R20 which are 34.5" tall and 12.1" wide but ended up going with the BFG's due to availability and I was a little concerned that the extra width of the Nitto's might cause issues with rubbing. I believe most of the issues people have with tire rub is due to the width of a tire usually and not the height. The Trail Grappler's also come in a 295/65R20 which are 35.5" tall and 12.1" wide but I think that would look better with a lift because it's getting pretty tall.

275/60/20 is actually as close as you can get to 33" (32.99 to be exact). I have to say I haven't had my Cooper Zeons in snow yet but for everything else I absolutely love them.

I'm no expert but I think you are going to have a hard time fitting much of anything any bigger without leveling the front end. A lot of peeps go with 305/55 which is quite a bit wider but only about 0.20 inches taller than stock but even some of them have needed to level the front to keep them from rubbing.

I would suggest some Bilstein 5100 leveling shocks. Everyone seems to love them, you can still use them if you decide to do an actual suspension lift, and it would open up a whole new range of tire sizes....probably all the way up to a 35x12.50 (nearly 2" wider and a full 2" taller than stock).

What starquestbd22 said. Anything wider will rub. I am pretty sure you can't put a 285/75 on the truck...that's too tall at 35".

I've been reading like a mad man on this very subject and 285's are the max on stock wheels and 305 if you go aftermarket with the proper offset.

Thanks guys -ended up going with Cooper Zeon LTZ 275/60/20's and Konig LockNLoads. Stock size, yeah, but a better looking (and performing) tire. Twisted10 - I know you said they suck in the snow but the reviews have been positive so I'm going to give them a spin. Thanks all!
