Default 2009 Ram makes noise going into reverse

A few months ago my Ram had about 42,000 miles on it
I had been putting off servicing the Transmission & Differential & decided to go ahead & 'get er done'

I bought the 2 MOPAR brand transmission filters
I also bought a MAG-HYTECH differential cover
I decided to go with Royal Purple ATF & Gear oil, mostly because it can be found in many auto parts stores
Next i received a Catch Can from BT during the time when they started using their other brand name, exact same can, SX letters on top

Knowing that the dealership might have an issue doing the work, i went to a shop that works on high performance vehicles.
That shop manager was about to take my Ram back into the service bay & when he put it into reverse, we both heard a grinding noise, sounded a lot like someone trying to shift a standard transmission without pushing the clutch in adequately.
The manager then told me that he didn't like the noise & suggested that i take the Ram to the dealership & get it checked out.
I did & they replaced the drive shaft under warranty, saying that it was fixed.

I went back to the Dyno Shop & told them to go ahead & do the installing of parts, fully flush the transmission system, & service the rear end.

Well it is 11,000 miles & 2 oil changes later
the noise is back, i had the dealership check it out again, they confirmed the noise. This is what was decided

the image can be made larger 2 times, so it easily readable

mine makes the same noise but i noticed i really only hear it is when i put my truck in park at some type of slop and when i let off my brake it moves forward or backward, in which then i put my truck back in reverse and then thats when the "grinding" happens...i reduced the noise by when i see im at some type of slop i just put the e brake on before letting off the brake so when i go back to my truck to leave it doesnt make that noise...i have just lived with it, hopefully not to bad for it lol

I have an 09 with 60k miles on it, baught it used in May this year. Three days after signing the papper work the tranny went completely out, wouldnt get into gear at all, they replaced it. Two weeks later i had to get a whole new drive train computer replaced, i dont know what thge specific name is. Two weeks after that, i had to get the tranny re-adjusted because it was slipping gears and it was making that noise you are talking about. It went about 6 weeks without making that noise and now it started back up again. I took it back to the dealership and they told me the same thing they told u, well i got online and found a service bulletin straight from dodge and it did back up what it has to say, so i trust it.

Dodge must have been planing ahead when they printed the '09 Owners Manual. On page 329/330, of my book, they tell you how to use the "parking brake" (not E brake) when parking the truck. I live in flat Florida so I only use my parking brake about 98% of the time.
I have a Lifetime Drive Train Warranty so why worry? Change the oil and filter every 6,000 mi/6 mo, don't service the trans or diff and I'm good to go! Follow the Owner Manual's service requirements and I'm golden, IMHO.

I too have the Lifetime Drivetrain Warranty & i also have the Lifetime Maximum Care Warranty

I just don't like strange noises, especially on any given work day, i may have to drive anywhere from 65 - 700+ miles on a job & who knows what the very next day
In my business a loaner won't work

GT,

My point was that Dodge tells you how to use the parking brake to elimate strain on the parking paw in the transmission. If the parking brake is used before shifting into park and released after shifting into gear, do you still have the noise? If so, I agree, it is not normal.

That being said, I know that Chrysler products have for years had a "soft ratcheting" sound in the transmission when shifting into gear. This is in no way a grinding noise.

I know your in the escort bussiness, but things do brake down, just like, I'm sure the trucks/trailers you lead and/or follow have done.

Stay safe out there.
