is it practical to spray them while they are still attached tot the truck, ... I have the OEM ones so I was thinking i can tape/paper off what I don't want painted and remove the step pads, paint and reinstall the step pads and use some SS screws instead of the rusting steel ones

For any touch ups I have to do in the future I'm just going to leave them on. But I think it would be best to remove them for the initial coats. Just because you want to spray right around the bars even the bottom so theres no points where it starts and stops which could make it peel. Unless your going to raise the truck I dont think it would be very practical. I have the OEM ones as well and it was just 6 bolts on each side to remove.

erm sounds like a project to do when the wife doesn't have to get into the truck, unless i haul around a step ladder for her.

Yea you'll probably want them off for at least a day. Good luck with it.

well if they scratched when you rolled them over, I wonder how well they'll hold up to rock chips.

I rolled them over while they were wet still pretty much right after I sprayed them. Realized that wasn't the best idea. Once they're dry theres no problem rolling them around.

No problems so far, other than the fact they're harder to keep clean. They seem to pick up a lot of dust. But I probably notice it more than others because I'm actually looking for it.
