Default Oil Change distance

Here in Canada, with my 2010 RAM, it appears that I am expected to change the oil every 5,000 km which translates to only 3125 miles. My question is: What is the recommended mileage for US trucks on their first and subsequent oil changes. Thanks.

Schedule B with conventional oil recommends a change every 3,000 miles.

To get the most of your oil changes I recommend an oil analysis 1 to 2 times before you change your oil. I will let you know if the oil is breaking down, or absorbing moisture. Test your oil at 2500 miles and if OK test again at 3500 or 4000 miles... You will than know when to change your oil for your specific driving style!
You only need to do this during one normal driving oil change cycle.
If you switch to synthetic I would test again.
the test are about 25-30 bucks including the shipping of the oil sample to the lab

There is no Schedule B in the 2010 Owners Manual (USA).

You are instructed to change oil within 500 miles of the Oil Life Monitor going off (6,000 miles maximum). It also notes that the OLM does not keep track of time and that maximum time interval is 6 months.

2011 mileage was upped to 8000 miles. No mechanical changes. I suspect the most likely reason is the tougher lubricant standards (SN/GF5).

PS Is their no reference to the Oil Life Monitor in your 2010 Owners Manual (Canadian)?

Remember that the OLM will adjust slightly to the majority of driving style. More higway miles = longer intervals, short trips no full warmup mostly will = shorter intervals, etc...

I change mine every 3,000 with regular oil. My daily commute is 9 miles round trip. Better safe than sorry.

My RAM 1500 5.7L has a little over 10,020 miles on it. I check the oil last week, it was full. The next day the oil change message came on. I took it in today to have the oil changed. This is the 4th time I have had the oil changed in it. That is about every 2500 miles. I have used only Full Synthetic Oil. 1st was Royal Purple, 2nd Amsoil, 3rd & 4th Mobil 1. I was not trying to change like that, I wanted a place I could buy the oil and at a good price. I take my own oil to my dealer and have them change it and use a mopar filter. My daily work commute is about 6 miles round trip. That being said. I have driven that same route with my 2007 Caliber and also my 2009 Journey. Neither of them had the light go off with less than 4k-5k miles. I am just wondering if anyone else has this happening to them.

I don't care about lights, I have always changed my oil every 3,000 miles and always will. If you are using full synthetic you can go 5,000 to 6,000 but I have always used conventional oil and changed it regularly and I have never had an oil related problem.

Also no matter what anyone says, never change oil without changing the filter too.....
