Question I have no clue what the problem is...HELP PLEASE

Ok so here is the symptoms of the problem...I was pulling a trailer with a 2005 Dodge Neon when all of a sudden my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 starts acting like it wants to die...later on after I unhooked from the trailer it started doin the same thing...so I gave it a little more gas and then I hear a loud pop come from underneath the truck....I get out n look nothing is broken so I keep going a little further down the road it starts losing power again then more popping...sounds like it could be a clogged cat based on where the popping coming from.....

Any ideas?????

Thank you in advance for any suggestions and help

Almost sounds like it's backfiring? My old 97 ram had this issue. I tweaked the distributor back a bit and it was fine. Maybe it's a computer issue? I say that because we don't have distributors.

Sounds like a bad cat to me. Ma had a few years in the late 90's early 2000's that there was a high early failure rate. My 2000 had a bad one as did my son's 2001 Dakota. Similar symptoms other than the loud pop.

Have you ever had any issues pulling anything in the past? I agree with namretsud, it may be a bad cat. It may have been bad or going bad for a while, pulling the trailer may have just been the little extra work necessary to put it over the edge. I'd definitely be interested to hear if anything more comes of it!

Any problem codes set? The last time I had an issue similar to this, on an older truck though, it was due to my timing chain slipping.

This individual describes something similar in a trailerlife.com Q&A session. Different vehicle but similar issue. The answering person seems to suggest fuel starvation ... possibly a clogged fuel filter? Just figured I'd share.

Ive never had any problems in the past with pulling...and still it hasn't done this...so I'm thinking that it just drew in some moisture

How many miles on your plugs? If they are copper, should change out at 30,000 miles, I think. I change mine at 50,000. If cats are plugged, you should be down on power. Any Check Engine Light? If it's anything related to emissions control, probably still warrantee.
