Default Wiring a 7-pin into an 07 1500

Hey Guys,

I am trying to figure out how to wire up the brake controller and power feed at the bumper of my 07 MegaCab. I have searched her and the web and the eTrailer videos, but I cant figure out where the wire leads are to hook up at the bumper.

So far I have the 7-pin plug mounted in the bumper and the factory 4-flat plug goes right into it, leaving the grounding wire, power feed, and brake wire left to be hooked up.

So where are the factory wires for these leads???? I have pulled the loom off the wiring harness at the back of the truck but it isnt obvious and I cannot find anything online.

Thanks for any help

Bash

Well if you are already wired for a 4-pin then the ground is part of that. The three remaining are for the brake control wire (which you may need to run), a constant hot (for the breakaway battery, interior lights etc.) and one additional. That last pin is sometimes used to power backup lights/ camera (just tap your back up light circuit) or as an aux power. It can also be left blank if you don't need it right now.

I understand all of that. My question is where are the wires to tap into?

eTrailer says that Dodge ran the blue wire (electronic brakes) to the rear wheel well of the truck, where others say it is ran to the back of the truck. Still cant find it.

I was able to plug the brake controller in under the dash with no problems, so the factory wired the truck for brakes there, but didnt run the wiring to the back of the truck. WTF?

Do I need to pull the loom apart at the fuse panel under the hood to find that blue wire? Or does someone know where it is?

Thanks

So, to update, my truck didnt come with any wiring to the back of the rig. eTrailer.com said that Dodge ran the wiring to the wheel well. Didnt say front or rear. I found a large plug behind the plastic inner fender well, however it wasnt too obvious what to tap into.

I ended up tapping the brake control wire into the brake controller under the dash and running it all the way back.

hopefully this can save someone the hours of google, phone calls and crawling around in the dirt that I spent yesterday trying to find the factory wiring!! Oye!!

i am having the same issue, etrailer and a few other sites that have come up in my searches say blue wire in front wheel well on drivers side on the larger plug, well the larger plug on my truck does not have a blue wire...the blue wire is on the smaller plug next to it but is for the fuel pump. i have a green wire that goes into the larger plug and does not come out the other side as well as a red with blue marker. not sure which is which and what one to tap into SMH

Sound like the wires you are looking for aren't going to be there! Ground to a good body point or into the ground on the 4 pin, power feed will come directly from the battery, and brake signal wire would come from the brake controller. I don't think you should need to be splicing into wires toward the front of the truck. I hope I understood the question correctly, and if I did I hope this helps some!
