Default Aluminum wheels...safety issue?

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 HD W/Diesel engine and I tow a 37 ft fifth wheel that has a 2000 pound tongue weight. Recently I noticed that the left front tire was low so I took it in to have the tire patched...turns out that the wheel has a pin hole in it. The wheels are aluminum and I have towed the trailer across the United States and back (live in Colorado). My neighbor said I should get rid of the stock wheels and go to steel wheels. I really don't want to do that unless it's a safety issue. I think the stock aluminum wheels are safe or they wouldn't have been installed on a heavy duty rig in the first place. Am I wrong??

I think it is a random fluke. I have cars that are older then I am (22) and have had aluminum wheels be on those and nothing wrong with them.

It's not that uncommon for a forged aluminum wheel to have a pinhole leak now and then. Aluminum is a bit porous when compared to steel, however, a forged wheel is stronger.
