Default Aftermarket stereo with center console USB

I just installed a Jensen VX7020 and while there a lot of negative reviews about it, it seems to be perfect for me.

I understand the center console USB becomes useless with an aftermarket stereo

Has anybody tried using a plug adapter and plugging this USB into one of the AV inputs of an after-market unit?

Unless the head unit you bought has a USB port on it, which from looking at pictures it doesn't like like it does, no. The media hub in the center console needs to plug into a USB port to provide power and data, the RCA AV inputs on the head unit use an analog signal, not a digital one that would be coming from the media hub.

thanks for the reply.

it does have a USB port on the front but that defeats the purpose of it being hidden.

Im trying to figure out something also. As far as i know according to the other forum, even with mini usb to usb adapters the headunits read incompatible when soemthing is plugged in since the usb from the center console is wired into the harness.

I can't say for sure but you might be right. It could be that there is not a direct USB connection from the mini USB connection behind the dash to the center console hub, it might be tied into some other systems making it not a "true" USB hub.

pretty much my own experience.

The USB, on the truck, is tied into the system. Using an adapter, to the radio, ties teh radio into this USB system and allows the radio to see that there is USB connections, BUT, the radio is not a computer and cannot tell "WHAT", exactly, is plugged in. The radio simply gives a "read error".

Imagine there is too much other data, being sent, along those same usb wires , to the radio, besides that which has been plugged in.
