This is very good information!! I hope this applies in the same way to '12.
The caveat I would add is that I do not know if it is being "colored" by the collection device. (mic in an iPad Air). I need to breakdown and buy a USB mic (calibrated UMIK-1 USB or equiv) and use some better software like REW.
I find the alpine high system simply terrible. The bass is exaggerated to please people who don't have any appreciation for quality music playback. It just sound "loud" and boomy and uncontrolled. Turning down the bass on the equalizer doesn't help. If interpret graphs correctly, I see that they did emphasize the bass. Possible to modify the stock sub box and woofer cone for a relatively easy mod? I will then have to replace dash speakers next.
So you replaced all your Alpine speakers with JL Audio?
I have 4 JL audio 6x9s and the same set of dash speakers from my old RAM. I had replaced all the factory stuff, since I didn't have the Alpine system. I just got my new truck and ordered it with the Alpine System I was expecting better sound. After reading this, Im thinking about just swapping out my dash speakers and the 4 doors with the JL Audios speakers I already have. seems to be I should have much improvement. Ill leave the sub, center and headliner alone. Your thoughts?
What model of JL 6x9 speakers did you put into the doors? Somewhat interested in swapping out the ones in the rear doors but concerned about mounting depth. I already have JL speakers in the dash and that really woke up the factory sound.
I have been working with my system for the past 6 months and I almost have a good SQ. My setup:
Hertz Hi-Energy HSK 165 Front (tweets in dask MB in the front doors)
Hertz ECX 165.5 Rear Doors
Hertz DCX 87.3 Front Center
JL Audio SB-D-QDRAM/10W3v3
Audison Bit One Processor
8.4 Stock HU
Chrysler messed up trying to process the 9 speakers using the small amplifier. You have to combine channels to get full range from the speakers. It sounds great now except the rear Energy. I tried to use just the front stage but it did not sound as good as the rear fill. Now I am going to charge up the rear speakers with some JL C3 6.5 and play with the placement of the tweeter. First headliner then move around. The reason I chose the C3 is that you can use them as a coax kick ass speaker if you can't find the right placement.
If you are going to buy a new truck and like music do not spend the money for the alpine system. A pain in the butt to get good sound. I tried to just replace speakers and that just made it sound worse.
