Default How much do you tow?

Was wondering what everyone around here tows with their 1/2 ton? I have the dodge Quad cab sport with 20" tires and 3.92 rear axle ratio, and was looking at buying at toy hauler with GVWR of 7900 lbs. Looked all over the Internet and shows the dodge with options like mine is "recommended" for 9600 lbs max. So curious if anyone else is pulling this much or more with any issues. Would hate to buy the trailer, then realize its too heavy. And before anyone says it, no I don't want to upgrade to a 2500/3500 at the moment. Lol

Thanks

Mine's a crew-cab with the same gears and tire/rim size, picked up a new 26 foot jayco trailer this spring, the trailer weighed in about 5400 pounds loaded, in my opinion that's about half of what it could potentially haul,I kinda planned it that way though, I'm not sure I would pull anything heavier, it just seemed really balanced with that much load. If I knew I would be pulling anything heavier, I hate to say it, I would trade up to a diesel.

I have a Laramie crew cab same set up (3.55 gears)and pull a desert fox 21 foot toy hauler. It weighs 5800 I think (i tell myself 6000) and the bikes are 1000 plus all the gear. So I would say around 7500. It pulls it fine uses lots of gas but works well. I needed to install the timbren system because the load levelers were not enough. Hope this helps.

The truck would haul the trailer fine but it's not hard to put 2000 lbs in a toy hauler with out realizing it

this is an interactive site
pick the year, model, etc, etc
then under Technical Information, look for the line that begins with BASE WEIGHTS
then set the zoom to a size that allows you to read the charts

I pull a 7500lb, 35 foot trailer with my 2010 QC 4x4 with 3.55 gears. It's not ideal, but it pulls fine. A little head wind and some hills and it get's a little sluggish, but your 3.92s are a better setup than mine.

I'd say you're in good shape.

3.92 will help you out a lot. The truck can definitely tow that weight, but like stated about it's easy to add a couple thousand pounds without even knowing it....so just be careful what you load up...

I have the Quad Cab 4x4 with 3.55 gears, pulling a 32 foot ultra lightweight trailer, 4800 unloaded. I would say I'm around 6200 loaded up. Trailer has a very wide spread axle which seems to really help with towing. I had a 20 foot Jayco tandem axle and our new one seems to handle better.

I have a similar set up to big daddy, except with a HEMI. 29 foot Kodiak travel trailer, weighs around 6300 loaded and I have the 3:55's.

It tows it well, but I wouldn't want anything heavier with this trucks gearing.

With the 3:92's I think you will be fine with something around 7900 - 8000 lbs just be careful how much you load up. Once you put a trailer on these trucks they run out of cargo carrying capacity QUICK, so you will actually be better off with a toy hauler and the gear in the trailer.

Enjoy the new trailer!

I have the 4x4 crew cab Big Horn with Hemi and 3.55 gears and the factory brake controler. I have had up to 8K+ behind mine and it tows fine. Barley even notice its there. I think your comfort level will increase with experience and properly set up tow equipment. I would not hesitate to put a full 10K behind mine if I had the need.

Then again I dont live in the Colorado mountains
