Thanks SNRUSNAK. Well first we have to find out if there is a Valve seat that drop. These 4.7 came with that problem and many have seen it after a overheating issue or failed valve lash. They sell mechanic scopes that are camera's that can go into the spark plug bore to see each cylinder. If that is not the cause that he dropped a Valve seat then go to the next step and check Exhaust Header Gasket. In some case I have heard people and seen people find a slight exhaust leak that sound like an engine knock. Next step is to remove the valve covers and inspect all the rocker arms for loose or stuck rocker arms. Some times you can for a brief moment have someone turn on the truck and you can hear closely for a knock which will sound loader with out the cover. DO a Compression Test for the last step to find if there's any cylinder compression change cause by a loose or stick adjuster. Beside that he might have to change them out but I would not recommend adding any washers to get a tighter valve adjustment since the 4.7 all ready have weak spots like you saw on my factory Cylinder Head Valve adjuster Bore Failure. Any questions hit me up on my profile IM.

Timing chain could be loose. I'm pretty sure I am going to have to change my tensioners, just haven't had the time to.

hey does anybody know where I can find a write up or more 411 about this lash adjustment/lifter problem. I have an 02 Ram w the 4.7 but i have a constant knocking instead of ticking. Had this problem when i had my trans am but it was a broken rod. I just need to know how to go about fixing it because i dont really have the money for a whole engine replcement. any suggestions?
