Default Getting Scared

I was wondering if anyone with upgrades was having transmission problems? I only have a exhaust on right now but I plan on doing the cai and predator and so on and so on maybe even a little nos some day, but I've seen some people saying the transmission won't handle it. I can do without the nos but I do want to supercharge in a year or so. I'm just wondering what you guys think with the exhaust, cai, 180 deg therm, headers and predator tuner when available, think it'll mess it up?

Those basic mods, no. You should be fine. But NOS? I only ask... why?

Anything more than minor bolt ons and you run the risk of tranny problems...Now that the trucks are starting to get some big power, the tranny issues are starting to show themselves! This thread below will give you an idea

When you do decide to up the ante with forced induction or NOS, it's a good idea to complete the project. After the engine is modded for performance, the trans is next. After that, the driveshaft, U-joints and rear end should also be on the consideration list.

One thing that hasn't changed over the years....when you make a performance change in one area, it has an impact on everything after it, so choose your engine mods with care. There's a lot of expensive stuff behind it that may break.

The tranny is definitely a weak link on these trucks. Some people have had them go out with just stock power and some have had to make over 400 rwhp to make them go. It's really just luck of the draw and not all of the aftermarket trans(sharadon and ats) are perfect either. There's a kit to be able to use a chevy transmission on the hemis but I don't remember who makes it or how well it works

You have higher stock numbers than us lowly 3G's but your driving habits should also be considered when prolonging your transmission.
I have pretty much every NA bolt on for a stock bottom end and w/ 119k on my tranny she is holding up great. Once it goes then i will just go the junk tranny route.

Maybe look into the Sonnax LP booster.

I agree 100% with kay9. Driving habit is probably the biggest factor. How rough you are on the trans plays a huge role. I like to run mine hard, but I try to avoid excessive downshifting(especially more than one gear down). That's probably what hurts them the most is the hard downshifts. Of course there are limits of the tq a trans can handle though. With bolt ons you should be fine, especially if you are careful with the trans. You'll need a stronger trans with power adders.

I would invest in a transmission temperature gauge to monitor esp' in AZ climate. One thing that will kill a tranny faster is over heating.

EDIT: scratch that as i forgot about the EVIC setup.

Yeah and I think the RT(and maybe other models/trims) has better trans cooling than regular also. My build sheet on my truck says "HD trans cooling", my friends RT has the same but in addition also has "Max duty trans cooling".

My trans temp in normal driving is around 140-160 deg F. He told me he's never had his go past 150 deg F even when towing.

They say a 10 or 20 deg F drop in trans temp prolongs it's life by so many miles* or something like that...
