The magnaflow y pipe must be welded in, and will help with performance but not change the sound hardly at all.

The stock exhaust flows very well, with the exception of the y pipe and muffler (and manifolds). I believe the stock bends of the exhaust are even mandrel. If you swap the y pipe and muffler then there isn't much else you can do for the exhaust (except headers). Most go with the cat back as they like the big tips that come with it, and to buy the tips separate is very expensive...

You dont "have" to weld the Y pipe in,
although that would be my preference.

You can buy some pre-bent mandrel pipe and some clamps and DIY
no welding, just OD/ID mandrel bent exhaust elbows with stainless step clamps to clamp and seal the joints, go here for the part #'s http://www.donaldson.com/index.html
4-2.5" stainless step clamps part# X007829
1-3" stainless step clamp part# X007830
1-45 degree exhaust elbow part# P206279
1-90 degree exhaust elbow part# P206339

True....what do those clamps and all cost? I know mandrel bends aren't cheap. It may still be cheaper to have a shop weld it in...

My bud did his clamped in for $60, $27 for the Y ($90 total)

My shop charges $30 for the Y, $15 ea for the two mandrel bent pieces of SS tubing, $90 labor...$150 total.
What ever you do, don't let a a Midas noob crush bend some cheap ass pipe to save money, it would defeat the whole purpose of the Y swap.

a single 90º crush bend reduces flow by 20%, add up a number of bends and you wasted your money.

That's a great price especially for SS. I would have to spend about $30 for a 90 degree aluminized steel bend. SS for me would be more like $40 or $45. Also, most shops here (actually none that I can find) stock mandrel bends.

To the OP if you do this I suggest calling some shops to see their prices, if they are high you can probably order them online yourself cheaper, as I can, and like he said it is very beneficial to go with mandrel bends.

Where did you find the Magnaflow cat back for $500? I have only been able to find them for around $725 and up. Thanks a lot for all the help guys!

Well there you go....just order a couple mandrel bends and have him weld it up. I'm not sure if the exhaust before the y is 2.25" or 2.5".....?
