I would advise doing all the back ground information before committing. Check all the branches, see what theyll give you. I know I'm currently AD in the Navy, but I am nothing in the Aviation side of the house, strictly medical. I have flown in MH-60's though, fun stuff. If you ever need any current back ground information on the Navy, feel free to let me know. It's the best thing thats happen to me, and I love it every day, but its not for everyone.

If you want to fly fixed wing id say USAF is where its at. If you want Helicopters go with the Army or the Marines. As far as flight hours are concerned the army will give you the most flight time. A warrant officer pilot's sole job is to fly, only a few of them have another billet or responsiblity. I think now the recent change was warrants need an associates degree. If you want to go straight in I would say go USMC crewchief they have a pretty wide selection of platforms to fly on i.e. Ch-53E, V-22s, hueys, and C130s. Im a 53 crewchief and Ive flown over many places including afghanistan and pakistan (not on the osama raid). personally thats the most fun you fly and maintain the aircraft and shoot the guns.

I'm an active duty Navy Corpsman. I've served at joint commands (Army, AF, USMC) and with specifically Marine Corps and Navy commands. If you are looking to get flight hours, but don't have a degree or aren't able to get into an officer flying program, the Navy has plenty of enlisted ratings (MOS in every other branch) that will get the job done. Most every other branch has flight engineers for rotary wing aircraft, but the Navy and USAF by far have the most enlisted fixed wing flight engineer opportunities.

If you end up going the enlisted route, keep your nose clean, and apply for a warrant officer flying program.
