Default Just Ordered 18in Magnaflow but debating Y?

I just ordered a 18in magnaflow muffler because i want a better sound on my 2010 ram 5.7. Im on the fence tho if i really need to chang out the Y pipe. I can see why you would change it out but i dont know if its worth the extra cash since its a daily driver. Any thoughts?

If it's just sound you want, go with just the muffler. BUT....if you want a better performing exhaust, spend the extra 30 bucks and get the Y-pipe.

Here is my build to help you decide! It shows how bad the factory merge is and how I mounted my Y for better flow.

It was worth it to me, but I race mine Hard! and want every tenth of a second I can steal from the track clock.

$27 is cheap, for the Y part itself, but dont be deceived by the low price
...its the $90 for labor to get it installed welded in properly that brings into question how much more performance you really need.

it's actually more like a $150 mod if you do it with mandrel bent stainless steel pipe. (that's the route I went)

Without a tuner and intake upgrades, benefits would be hard to measure/justify.

I shouldnt have any problems just having the muffler welded in? I noticed the stock muffler is on hangers and was kind of wondering if they will hang the magnaflow?

You will have hangers on the Magnaflow as well. At least, any good shop will weld some on to make sure it's supported correctly. It reduces rattling and they don't want you to come back with a problem.

I'd suggest welding it in...no reason to leave an opening for leaks later one using clamps and having them loosen.

I got my magna in and i ordered 18" Part number 12278. I guess i didnt do my homework and now need to know if this is easily installed by the local muffler shop? Someone mentioned the dual 2 1/4" dual outlets were not the same size distance as the stock muffler? anyone know?
