Default That grinding noise update

ok guys just got a call from my tech. He had made a case with chrylser and he heard back from them. Chrylser is aware of the tq. converter problem. They said to replace it if the noise is produced between a certain RPM range and Speed range, which it does. They need three techs to look at it for a day and if its confirmed they will replace the tq. converter. I see a TSB coming soon. Figured I'd just let you guys know. There is light at the end of the tunnel! P.s. if you trying to produce the noise for a tech, put it in tow mode. The sound is alot worse and produces for a longer time.

Thx for the update. I have asked my dealer to check this out, but so far they have not identified anything. They are not being "difficult", as I don't even experience it most of the time. Haven't tried using the tow mode option, may try that this weekend.

A TSB, while it would be great news, is probably a loooong ways away. There is a $$ impact associated with this at the manufacturer level instead of the dealer, so I would not hold my breath for that.

Thats insane about 3 techs needing to look at it.

I reported the problem to my delaer, told him what I thought the problem was and to see if the TSB for the shift points would fix it, they did the flash, noise was still there.
Next day after work, I took one of the mechanics out in the truck, and had him listen, I then gave him a complete breakdown of the rpms and speed when most prevelant.
Following day they picked up the truck from my work, and returned a couple hours later and told me a new converter was on order, i called the service manager and set up a day for them to complete the work.
Following week, 09/21 work was started and truck picked up following day 09/22, noise is gone, shift points are firmer and truck runs even better than before.
Torque converter was bad.

This is great news and very glad you got it all fixed up. If you'd be willing to share you're build date I'm sure others that are experiencing this issue may have dates close to yours.

I personally haven't had the issue on my ram but have noticed my tranny is starting to feel very sluggish and my mileage has dropped by 2 mpg over the last 2 tanks.

I'm having several issues with my truck, only 8K miles on it & it's in service now for 4th or 5th time for grinding. They keep telling me they don't know how to fix it! I'm glad I found this as just emailed service director to inform him to change the torque converter as mentioned on forumz. Hopefully this fixes this problem!

My truck's build date was March 16th 2011. Got it at the dealer March 28th lol. My truck has 8k on it now and I started hearing at about 2k. And yeah 3 techs. I'm assuming the little guy the medium guy and the head honcho. Truck is at dealer today so I will give an update when they call me back.

Btw, the tech had asked me when I got an oil change. Like an oil change would have anything to do with this? I answered him back "2 weeks ago" he's like "oh ok". Told him a 40k truck should not be making this noise and he agreed.

Took mine in yesterday and had a tech ride with me, it did right away and he said "yep, torque converter". So they have one on order. It had started to make the noise on the highway and was starting to get on my nerves a little. I was going to try and wait and see if Chrysler would put out a TSB but it just was too much. I was glad I didnt have to put up a fight about it!!
