As I said before, what you consider a "nice, firm" shift, someone else would call a "harsh, jerky" shift. Among automotive executives, I think the prevailing attitude is that a "perfect" shift is one that is imperceptible. You (and I) would disagree, but unfortunately we get more customer complaints about shifts that are too harsh, than about shifts that are "too smooth."

I don't know of any "fix" for the production shift quality, other than perhaps the aftermarket "tunes" that seem to offer firmer shifting. Changing the PCM calibration or shift strategy is the only way I know to directly and permanently change the shift quality. However, I only work on production vehicles, so I have no knowledge of how the various aftermarket "tunes" affect the transmission programming, which ones are better, etc. Sorry...

TE your input on this has been awesome! I can understand where you are coming from in that it is impossible to please everyone. With that being said, something was changed in these transmission with the 09 and up to change the way they shift. Maybe this change was in hopes if softening the shifts up for a group of people, maybe it was a side effect for some other change. Maybe this change consisted of programming or a half-dozen other things, but something changed. My question is what changed and why?

Another question I have is do engineers look at forums like these for input from a group of people? There is a great deal of information out there in places like this. I am not saying that people don't have varying preferences, but it is a great place to find out what people like and don't like (ie. the newer style transmission).

If your asking about the Sonnax 44957-LB2, then yes.

How do I know for sure, what part# I'll need? I dont want to damage anything by getting the wrong part.

If you have a gas engine (which you do), then you want Sonnax 44957-LB2
The other Sonnax unit is for the transmission behind the diesel engines.
