Default Throttle body

Good afternoon.

I have to replace the throttle body on my '95 5.2lt 318. The mechanic who put it in bolted it to tight and cracked it @ 3 of the 4 bolts and it no longer makes a seal. Not a big deal. However, I thought I'd take this time to upgrade it to a larger bore throttle body. When I started looking I found out that throttle bodies for the '95 are discontinued (best place to look it the wrecker). They still make them for the '99.

Why will the "99 throttle body not fit or work with my '95 2.5lt 318? Are they not the same engins requiring the same O2 levels?

Tess

No it will not work, you need a valve body from a 94 or 95. I recommend you get one from a 1995 because the valve body is completely different then the 1996 ones, not just by the throttle lever but the actual casting is different. If you get one from a 96 or later then the vehicle will surge, ask me how I know.

Lol, that's why I ask so that I don't find out the hard way. Looks like my old option is the wrecker then. I am disappointed that dodge doesn't support their vehicles for the life time of that vehicle. My Honda civic is.

Well that is a smart move, I found out the hard way because there obviously is limited information on these trucks and there were so many changes over the years. Thing is the parts are virtually the same but again changes in the casting and machining. The biggest change was in 1996 with the deletion of the EGR valve and the removal of the intake manifold divider, Chrysler made up the removal of the EGR valve with a larger cam overlap, this was smart because not only did they have an excellent EGR effect but the changes in the LSA and durations helped increase power, efficiency, and reduced emissions and ping.

That's my next move once I hear back from Chrysler (IF I hear back) about my 20 year old import being still supported, but my 17 year old Dodge is not.

If Chrysler does have one it's going to be about 300 bucks.
You might be better off trying a LKQ! I bought mine from an LKQ for like 30 bucks. And be sure to tighten the bolts to 200 inch-lbs only.

Lol, No kidding. I have had to replace a few things due to strong arming it. Cracked a bell housing from overtight cooler fittings, so I replaced that during my rebuild. I too the throttle body, problem was I didn't have a torque wrench at the time. But as they say live and learn. The transmission thing was different though because taper threads so they want like wrist tight practically but my wrist tight snapped a fitting in half...

Well I heard back. They asked were I had gotten this info and what dealerships I was dealing with. So I sent the a long list of everywhere I had spoken to. That was last week. They still have not responded back.
