Default Help? Battery light?

Hey,

Bought my truck about 2-3 months ago. It was working perfectly (as a new truck should) and there about 2-3 weeks ago my battery light came on. Couple days later it quit/shut off completely as i was driving. Now i have it booked into the dealership and i want to know what you guys think it could be? I don't want them to push me off as a naive young chick and say its fixed when it's not. This is very frustrating and the whole reason i bought a truck was so that i had a reliable vehicle for our canadian winters.. I honestly don't think it's the battery and that it might be the computer system. Any thoughts??

Thanks for your time

When the battery light comes on, it usually indicates the charging system is faulty. Most likely, the culprit is the alternator, but it could be anywhere in the wiring/fuseblock/battery/computer areas. It's generally a very easy fix.

Nothing to lose sleep about....

Welcome to the RamforumZ

I don't know how it works up there, but down here the Warranty would cover a tow to the dealership, we would just call them first. Then they would do whatever repair is needed, the Warranty would cover the work.

I would almost bet that a electrical connector was not properly installed between the alternator & the battery. Likely you were running mostly on battery power & the battery drained to the point of your Ram not getting enough electricity.

Good Luck

05 bee,
the charging system on our vehicles works different than a lot of older vehicles
once you jump your Ram, you are just giving it a small SURFACE charge, you would expect the Alternator to start pumping electricity into the battery until it is fully charged up.
Our vehicles don't work quite that way, once the battery gets so low that you need to jump it, as soon as you can you need to put it on a charger & give it a DEEP charge.
The alternator will not give it a deep charge, because it will kick off as soon there is a fairly good surface charge
The battery needs to be given a couple hours of charging with a battery charger, to start functioning properly
Randy tried explaining it once, he is a Dodge Technician that answers questions in the HELP section of the forumz

I bought a brand new...off the show room floor 2001 Dodge Neon in 01, within 2 weeks the lights went crazy and died, turned out to be a shorted battery, and would you know it, they told me it is common for the factory installed batteries to just crap out for no reason at all? WTF? so why do they keep them and not install a good battery? Anyways it was under warranty, got a Big Horn Quad to drive for a week till they got the battery installed...WOOT !!!!
