Default Hood Scoops

Not sure if this is under the right topic or whatever, but I was wondering if instead of shelling out the $400-500 for an already scooped hood, I could just buy scoops and cut out a section of the hood underneath the scoop for better airflow to my cold air intake? Seems like with an air reciprocating saw this could be done easily, but I'm not quite sure.

Any past experience with something like this? Is this a totally terrible idea?

Thanks.
Also, where can I find bed bars/roll bars for a 94-01 ram? All the sites I can find only have them for older or newer models/

I saw a guy do this on another forum. He got a stick on scoop, then cut a hole in the hood and attached the scoop to the hood. It was a good idea and iirc he said it functioned well. However, he did a crap job trying to blend the scoop into the hood with bondo or something and it looked like crap. Guess the gist of the story is it can be done but just make sure if you try blending the scoop into the hood that you know what you are doing.

Anything that would get better results than bondo? I always try to avoid that stuff if possible cause I have a hard time working with it.
