Default Nav hooked up to Sirius/Xm?

Thought I read here someplace that our Nav units are hooked up to Sirius so when your subscription runs out you would lose your Nav. Is this true? Thanks in advance all Curly

I am not sure, but i believe you are correct, unless there is a separate antenna under the dash that is not normally visible, there has to be a position locater ( latitude & longitude ) to make the little arrow work

I ended up buying a hand held Garmin Navigation device for about $199, it has everything that the Navigation in my RAM has & more, it also has LIFETIME MAPS & TRAFFIC.... With our vehicles, you have to pay for updates, $199 to update the Maps & another monthly amount for the Traffic

No your nav is not hooked to sirius or xm it is built into the radio it picks up the satellite from the built in antenna in your truck. You will always have the nav but when it come to updating maps i believe if you have the 730n nav it costs like 200 bucks to update but if you have the garmin 430n i think you can downlaod them into it.I know some paople prefer to buy the navigations units that stick to your dash or windshield i have had them and to me they are a pain in the but plus they block some of my view looking ahead and they don't play over that cars speakers.lol.And they always end up falling off the winshield when i suction cup it there. But there maps are free.lol.

i have both and prefer the garmin with a "sandbag" mount. it does not fall or slide and easy to take off the dash.

NAV and Sirius are totally separate from eachother and do not affect eachother in any manner.

Your NAV will work for as long as you own the vehicle.

Sirius (free 1yr subscription after you purchased the new vehicle) is only good for the first year...free that is. Then you cough up the benjamins

Default NAv

As a side note on the cost after the 1 year free. My wife's Pilot's Sirius/XM demo just expired. I called them and asked for their best/worst price or we weren't renewing. They quoted me $90 for the year, which I think she said is 50% off of their regular price. She said to mention that to the Sirius rep when my RAM trial ends and they'll give me the same price. I'm sure they'll give it to anyone if they ask nicely

From what I gathered from the owners manuals, the nav antenna is the little round marble looking device in the center of the dash at the base of the windshield.

Is this true? I have been exhausting my efforts trying to figure out the NAV antenna. I have a 2011 Dodge Ram. I want to swap my 430 w/o NAV to 430N w/NAV. The instructions say to replace the antenna in the roof with a dual antenna(SAT and NAV)p/n 05064350AA, I think that is for jeeps? I have the Antenna up there and took it apart and got the part number which is 05064908AA. I have heard people say they have swapped radios and everything worked fine. According to the parts for the 2010 Ram, the nav antenna is in the center of the dash, so it's not a dual antenna. There is only one antenna input on the back of the unit(perhaps the older unit has 2). I am getting a little frustrated with this thing, I hope someone can help me out here.

OK, just went and took the dash apart, that is the sun load sensor for turning on the headlights during auto mode.
